Catch Shiny Gyarados Easier in New Pokemon Go Event!

Back in the day, over two decades ago, the games “Pokemon Gold” and “Silver” were launched. In these games, a novel concept was introduced – Shiny Pokemon. Distinctively, these games made the player face a Shiny Gyarados by compulsion. Ever since then, Shiny Gyarados has been cherished by Pokemon enthusiasts, and if you don’t own one, there’s an upcoming opportunity to fill that gap. A fresh “Pokemon Go” event titled “Growing Up” will commence on May 2nd at 10 a.m. local time, and it promises to boost the chances of encountering Shiny Magikarp.

At the upcoming event, Magikarp is expected to show up more often in the wild, making it easier for players to spot its Shiny variant. Unlike the typical reddish-orange body, the Shiny Magikarp sports a golden hue. Although the difference might seem subtle, the Shiny Gyarados certainly leaves an impression compared to the standard blue one. Instead of the usual deep blue color, Gyarados in this case will have a vibrant red shade. This unique coloration is quite striking and if you don’t already own it in Pokemon Go or the mainline Nintendo Switch games, this event presents a great chance to add it to your collection!

During the Pokemon Go Growing Up event, it’s not just Magikarp whose Shiny encounter rates will be boosted – Swablu and Wimpod are also in the spotlight! You’ll notice these two Pokemons showing up more often in the wild, and Wimpod will hatch from 2 km Eggs at a higher rate during this event.

Alongside higher Shiny rates, the Growing Up event offers additional perks. For one, players can earn double experience points when they evolve their Pokemon, and double Candy upon hatching Eggs. Additionally, there’s a higher probability of finding both tiny XXS and giant XXL Pokemon in the wild. Given that some PokeStop Showcases will occur during this event, those XXL Pokemon could prove useful! Furthermore, the event includes a Collection Challenge emphasizing Eggs. Completing this challenge rewards players with various benefits, including an encounter with Tandemaus.

The “Growing Up” event is set to continue until May 7th at 8 p.m., local time. Although April isn’t quite over yet, details for next month in relation to Pokemon Go are starting to emerge. In May, there will be two Community Day events to anticipate: one on May 11th and another special event called “Community Day Classic” on May 24th. As of now, Niantic hasn’t disclosed which Pokémon will feature in either event, but it’s likely we’ll learn about the first one within the next week.
