Cate Blanchett’s Shocking Revelation: Is Hollywood Shedding Another Star?

Cate Blanchett has other goals to pursue.

A month following the release of her movie “Black Bag” in cinemas, the actress, mother to Dashiell (23), Roman (20), Ignatius (17), and Edith (10) with husband Andrew Upton, revealed her upcoming professional plans.

She shared with the Radio Times, “My loved ones may find it hard to believe, but I truly mean it,” in an article set for publication on April 20, as reported by The Standard on April 14. “I am sincere about leaving acting behind. There are numerous aspirations I hold for my life.

Cate, who received two Academy Awards for her roles in “The Aviator” and “Blue Jasmine,” along with six further nominations, also expressed her disinterest towards the fame aspects of her acting career.

She clarified, “Whenever I appear on a talk show or in this setting, and later hear snippets of my own statements emphasized and set apart in italics, it seems like those quotes are overly prominent. However, I am not the individual portrayed by those strong statements.

In fact, the actress from “The Lord of the Rings” series feels that her public image does not fully capture who she truly is.

She went on to say, ‘I express myself better through action.’ For a while, I’ve struggled to adapt to the thought of being captured by a camera. I’ve often felt like an outsider looking in, so it always takes me aback when I find myself fitting in somewhere. I venture into new situations with a sense of curiosity, not necessarily hoping to be accepted or welcomed.

Indeed, at this juncture, Cate confessed that she’s grown accustomed to the status quo in her life. In her words, “I’ve become adept at embracing the discomfort of the unfamiliar.

This isn’t the first time the 55-year-old has teased possibly giving up acting.

In an interview with The Guardian on March 9, she mused, “If my acting career doesn’t take off, which could still happen, I’ve always dreamed of becoming a Foley artist.” She added, “One day, I hope to grow up and secure a steady job.

The popular television talk show hosted by Ellen DeGeneres concluded in 2022 following a 19-season stretch, as it faced claims of a harmful workplace atmosphere leading to an internal probe, dismissals of high-ranking staff members, and widespread criticism from the public.

Ellen DeGeneres, who played Dory in “Finding Dory,” made a comeback with her last stand-up comedy special titled “For Your Approval” on Netflix in September 2024. Before this special hit screens, she announced that she was planning to retire from Hollywood entirely.

She informed a gathering during her ‘Ellen’s Final Stand…Up’ tour, as reported by SFGate, that this would be the last time they see her. After her Netflix special is released, she plans to retire.

Following stints on shows like “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and the 2000 film “Bring It On”, Eliza unveiled in September 2024 that she had obtained certification in psychedelic-assisted therapy and was deepening her knowledge to become a mental health professional.

She shared with Boston Magazine that she had the opportunity to change her path and concentrate on self-healing to better assist others in their healing. It would be neglectful not to reveal the transformation, tranquility, and enthusiasm I now embody. This is undeniably my true vocation, my genuine purpose.

In January 2025, the star of The Flintstones disclosed that she relocated to Ireland with her 12-year-old son Clay, and is currently working towards obtaining Irish citizenship since her grandparents are from there. However, she didn’t dismiss the possibility of returning home at some point in the future, as she mentioned recent political changes as the motivation for her move.

In a TikTok video, she expressed her longing for her other children, friends, and various aspects of life at home. She’s currently trying to find a new home here in this stunning country. When all citizens in America can enjoy equal rights safely, that’s when we might think about returning.

As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but feel the weight of the news that the radiant star of Ant-Man and the Wasp is stepping away from the silver screen for an undetermined period after two decades of captivating performances.

In a post shared on Instagram in June 2024, Evangeline expressed her profound joy and contentment, stating, “I am living my dream today!” She went on to express her deep sense of gratitude for her blessings. Despite moments when choosing against wealth and fame seems daunting, she affirmed that following one’s life’s purpose (dharma) replaces fear with a profound sense of fulfillment.

However, she doesn’t definitively close the door on a possible Hollywood return. Instead, she hints, “There may be a time when I return to Hollywood, yet, at present, this is where I feel at home.

Previously starring in “The Vampire Diaries”, he hasn’t taken on a new acting role since Netflix’s 2019 series “V-Wars”. Instead, this father of two (with wife Nikki Reed) has immersed himself more fully into a personal endeavor, focusing primarily on his commitment to combating climate change by enhancing the quality of our soil.

In an interview with TopMob News in November 2023, Somerhalder explained that he had taken a break from acting approximately four years prior to focus on his family, establishing businesses, and bringing forth the documentaries Kiss the Ground (released in 2020) and its sequel Common Ground, both of which emphasize the importance of regenerative farming.

Speaking of the future, he emphasized, “I see myself as a rancher, creating enduring brand names – be it my bourbon or my health and wellness company. My commitment to regenerative agriculture and maintaining healthy soil will also be part of this journey, as it’s a practice our family and I uphold. This is the path I envision for myself. So when others ask, ‘Why do you take such interest?’ – that’s why I do. It’s about my identity, my future.

In a 2021 episode of her podcast “Empty Inside”, the former iCarly star revealed to guest Anna Faris that she chose to step away from acting several years ago, instead devoting her time to ventures in scriptwriting, direction, and podcast hosting.

Jennette shared that her history with acting leaves her feeling ashamed about the roles she took on in the past, as she expressed resentment towards her career and a sense of being unfulfilled. In her memoir “I’m Glad My Mom Died,” published in 2022, she elaborated on this sentiment, stating that the shows she was on from the age of 13 to 21 felt cheesy and embarrassing to her by the time she was 15. She explained that even her peers at 15 didn’t find it cool that she was on a Nickelodeon show, rather, they found it embarrassing.

Although she hasn’t ruled out a return to acting, she now feels that writing the book has opened up a possibility for her to revisit acting in a way that doesn’t burden her with the baggage she carried for so long. She suggested to TopMob News in October 2022 that if she were to write something specifically for herself, it might be one of the few ways she could consider trying acting again.

This seemed like an obvious choice. If we had the chance to marry Prince Harry, devote our life to charitable work that aligns with our values, and also access the Queen’s magnificent collection of tiaras, saying goodbye to Hollywood might not be so difficult.

In the footsteps of Grace Kelly, who transitioned from Hollywood to Monaco’s Palace, Markle relinquished her Toronto residence and her notable role in “Suits” for a life within The Firm. However, after stepping down from their senior roles, she is gradually returning to business, notably through strategic moves such as the multi-year production deal with Netflix.

Since her debut in “The Mask” in 1994, the actress had been involved in more than 40 films. By the time filming ended for “Annie” in 2014, it was clear that she had worked tirelessly and deserved a well-earned break.

She shared with her friend Gwyneth Paltrow that she had recently made a change in her life’s goals. After years of intense work, film-making, and long hours, she explained that it was like being owned by the production. With no time for anything else, it became an endless grind. When making a movie, it’s easy to use that as an excuse, but it consumes all your time and energy for months on end.

Beyond what she already delved into, there were numerous other areas she wished to investigate, such as writing (having published her 2013 New York Times best-seller The Body Book followed by The Longevity Book in 2016). Moreover, she started a family with husband Benji Madden. However, although she admitted to InStyle in 2019 that she doesn’t miss performing and is currently focusing on wellness, it seems there might be an exception as she might consider one more performance.

In a conversation with TopMob News, Jamie Foxx expressed his enthusiasm about getting Cameron Diaz to join the cast of their upcoming Netflix movie, “Back in Action”. He said, “We humbly requested and showed great admiration, something like ‘Could you do it one more time for us?’,” emphasizing their long-standing affection for her. Foxx added, “We’ve been anticipating this moment, and we believe this collaboration will be nothing short of amazing.

The actor made it clear that there would be no additional performances following his five-year stint on Empire, as reported by Extra when they asked about his future plans before the show’s sixth and final season in 2019. When queried about his acting career, he frankly admitted, “I’ve had enough of acting. I’m through with pretending.

Despite coming back for a few projects, he declared his intentions to retire from acting while publicizing his Peacock series titled “The Best Man: The Final Chapters” in 2022. He expressed this during an interview with ET, stating, “I’ve reached a stage where I’ve already delivered the best of my abilities as an actor. Now, I prefer to observe fresh talent emerging and don’t wish to imitate myself.”

Although some criticisms were made about him, Howard has re-emerged to feature in several productions. These include the TV show “Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist” and the Netflix movie “Shirley”, with more projects on the horizon for him.

After King Joffrey’s abrupt, purple-complexioned demise in 2014, the then-21-year-old announced that he was stepping away from acting. As he shared with EW, he had been involved in acting since he was 8 years old. However, he expressed that he no longer found it as enjoyable as he once did.

He is no longer just a child actor; the charm of it has faded somewhat. Earlier, it was merely a pastime shared with friends or a summer activity for fun. But now, he is considering turning it into a career. “I still find pleasure in it,” he said. “However, when you transform something into your livelihood, your perspective towards it shifts. It’s no longer just what I want to do.

However, following a hiatus of six years, he was eager to reclaim his role. In 2020, he became part of the cast for BBC’s show titled “Out of Her Mind“.

In September 2020, during a virtual table read for “Fast Times at Ridgemont High,” where Jennifer Aniston played the dream girl, she got married to actor Kevin Kline in 1989. They decided on an arrangement where one of them would always avoid working simultaneously, ensuring they could effectively care for their son Owen and daughter Greta (now known as Frankie Cosmos in her music career).

Nevertheless, he added that whenever it’s been Phoebe’s turn to work, she has opted to stay with the kids instead. Despite appearing briefly in Jennifer Jason Leigh’s 2001 independent film “The Anniversary Party”, Cates primarily focuses her time on managing her New York City boutique, Blue Tree.

In the midst of my renown from “Ghostbusters” and the popular sitcom “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids,” I, the ’80s icon, decided to take a break from filmmaking shortly after the tragic loss of my wife to breast cancer in 1991. My focus then shifted towards nurturing and guiding our children, Rachel and Mitchell.

Despite not appearing in a live-action role since 1997 and declining a cameo in Paul Feig’s 2016 Ghostbusters remake, his cultural significance remains undiminished, as demonstrated by the public reaction to allegations that he was assaulted while walking in New York City on October 1.

It’s great news for fans, as he will be back on screen, joining forces with Josh Gad, in the upcoming Disney remake titled “Shrunk”.

After marrying fashion designer Adam Kimmel in 2010, the prominent actress from “Never Been Kissed” seemed to suggest a possible shift away from acting. She stated, “Ninety percent of acting roles require a great deal of intimate scenes with others, which I’m not interested in participating in.” She further explained, “Acting is like playing with an intense fire, and our relationship can handle it, but one must have a compelling reason to walk through such flames. There needs to be something extraordinary awaiting on the other side.

The finality of her choice became clear when Martin joined Louisanna in 2014, leading her to express in a 2016 event for Us Weekly, “I no longer engage in film-related activities; I am now solely a mom and an outsider.” She elaborated that she assists Kimmel with his business ventures and paints as a hobby on the side. Her primary concern, she stated, is her children, which appears to be the main reason for her decision to stop working in movies.

She had watched shows like Ally McBeal, Nip/Tuck, Arrested Development, and Scandal. When the Australian woman came to this realization that perhaps it was time for her to move forward.

In her appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” in 2018, she candidly shared, “At around 45, I found myself questioning if there was something new and difficult that I could undertake, having never done it before.” She further explained that she had a clear idea of where her acting career would head for the next decade or two. As a result, she chose to step away from acting and embark on a business venture instead.

Her consumer-oriented art company, General Public, was currently a work in the making, and she only had one final piece left to complete.

I reached out to Mitch Hurwitz, the genius behind “Arrested Development,” and informed him that if there is a fifth season, I won’t participate due to my decision to quit acting. He appeared sympathetic and fully grasped the situation. Our conversation was enjoyable, and afterwards, he included me in five episodes by writing me into them.

After achieving the remarkable feat of securing my sixth Academy Award nomination for my swansong film, “Phantom Thread” in 2017, I found myself at a crossroads. Having triumphed in Hollywood’s most prestigious competition no less than three times, I pondered: What more is there to strive for? In the quiet moments that followed, I made a personal decision – one that I felt compelled to share with my cherished fans and colleagues. With deepest gratitude for the countless collaborations and connections we’ve forged over the years, I chose to step away from acting. This is a deeply intimate choice, one that I will not elaborate on any further. My representatives and I have elected to respect this decision and remain silent on the matter.

However, as he believed he was no longer involved, his son, Ronan Day-Lewis, drew him back into the fray. In October 2024, it was announced by production company Focus Features that the Oscar winner would star in “Anemone“, a film he co-wrote with his son who will also direct it.

In 2018, the actress from “Good Luck Charlie” decided to step away from the limelight and focus on her education. She completed a Master’s degree at MIT and subsequently earned a Doctorate from the same university. Currently, she is also studying law at Harvard Law School.

Additionally, not only did Bridgit achieve this, but she also founded Northwood Space, a company dedicated to constructing ground-based satellite stations for space data transmission and reception. She assumed the role of CEO at the brand in February 2023.
