Artistic Gymnastics: Women’s Team Final

Simone Biles stands out as exceptional, yet she cannot deliver a team victory on her own. The British team, 2021 Olympic bronze medalists, is facing challenges as Jessica and Jennifer Gadirova are injured, and Ondine Achampong has torn her anterior cruciate ligament. It’s a difficult situation, but when it comes to gymnastics competitions where only the top three scores count on each apparatus, success depends on the day. The cameras in Tokyo paid little attention to the British team until their medal-winning performance, which came as a surprise to many! However, competing against the US team is not an easy feat. Rugby Sevens: Women’s Final

In the previous year, Australia dominated the Rugby Sevens scene, earning title after title, akin to Manchester City’s success in football. Witnessing Maddison Levi is like watching an exceptionally gifted and athletic individual; her mastery of technique and strength is astounding. As a previous winger, I could only dream of possessing the elegance she brings to her runs. However, New Zealand emerged victorious in this year’s world series, marking Portia Woodman-Wickliffe’s final Olympics appearance. A revered figure in the sport, Woodman-Wickliffe’s legacy is undeniable. Consequently, both Australia and New Zealand appear to be the top contenders for this competition. Although unexpected outcomes are possible, they don’t occur frequently. The caliber and finesse displayed in Rugby Sevens truly sets these teams apart. UGO MONYE

Mountain Biking: Men’s Cross-Country Final

As a seasoned sports journalist with years of experience under my belt, I’ve had the privilege of interviewing numerous athletes at the pinnacle of their careers. Among them is Tom Pidcock, an exceptional talent who defied all odds and emerged victorious in the Olympics just a few months after his debut in the tournament and following a painful injury.

Swimming: Men’s 200m Freestyle Final

Duncan Scott is an exceptional athlete, as demonstrated by his impressive haul of four medals at the Tokyo Games. He’ll be eager to claim victory in the individual 200m freestyle this time around, having finished second to Tom Dean in the past. However, Matt Richards shouldn’t be overlooked. The gold medalist at the 2023 World Championships swam impressively during the British trials and merits consideration. Likewise, David Popovici of Romania, the current world champion, has had a remarkable year and could make heads turn with his performance. This event promises to be highly competitive.

Equestrian: Eventing Team Showjumping

When I used to compete in eventing, my team consisted of five members. However, now it’s down to three, which means we no longer have the option to discard a score. This makes our task more challenging. The Germans are consistently strong contenders, but if Great Britain had fielded two teams, they could have taken the gold. This would have put immense pressure on the selectors. Ros Canter rides Lordships Graffalo and was an alternate in Tokyo. She’s currently in excellent form. Laura Collett secured team eventing gold in Tokyo with Oliver Townend and Tom McEwen, who also earned silver in individual eventing. Yasmin Ingham boasts the title of world champion. All five riders have a high chance of winning individual medals as well. TINA COOK
