Review of X-Men Apocalypse Alpha #1 and Age of Revelation

The first issue of X-Men Apocalypse Alpha is generally well-received, and Age of Revelation appears to incorporate some intriguing, albeit familiar, concepts. However, both seem to be revamps of the same fundamental theme, making it the fourth major alternate universe narrative in the past six years. This pattern includes Age of X-Men, another iteration of Age of Apocalypse (AoA), and From Sinister’s Sins in 2019 and 2023 respectively.

The From the Ashes X-Men reboot has been inconsistent, with much of its initial excitement fading away, and simultaneously releasing these two stories feels unnecessary. Is it truly essential to have both narratives running concurrently?

The classic horror game from the past, known as “Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly,” is due for a comeback in 2026 as “Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake.” However, no specific launch date has been announced yet. Interestingly, the developers of this remake are Team Ninja and publishers Koei Tecmo, who have previously produced popular series like Nioh, Dead or Alive, modern Ninja Gaiden games, and most recently the PS5 exclusive “Rise of Ronin.” It’s surprising because they did not develop the original Fatal Frame II; that was created by Tecmo. It’s not entirely clear how Team Ninja came to work on this remake, as they have no history with the series, don’t usually create horror games, and typically do not handle remakes.

But given its form factor and handheld functionality, it’s not a PS5.

Yesterday, on Friday, 12th September, the physical edition of Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound, rated 8/10 by The Game Kitchen, was launched in the UK. To prepare myself for visiting stores like Argos and HMV, I plan to read Stephen’s review from Push Square once more, as it usually gets me excited!

The latest information, not yet officially confirmed, originates from Redacted Guy on X. He suggests that the game had advanced significantly in development, boasting a fully developed combat system, movement system, and storyline. It’s also reported that motion capture and voice acting by Tony Todd were completed. If this information is accurate, it implies the game was intended for release in 2025.

However, Bandai Namco is heavily investing in the game’s re-release, planning to launch it concurrently with a Character Pass containing six fresh characters as well.
