Catherine Tate reacts to Doctor Who Proms return: “I’m delighted to be hosting”

As a lifelong Doctor Who enthusiast with a soft spot for Catherine Tate‘s witty and charming portrayal of Donna Noble, I can’t help but feel a thrill of excitement at the news that she will be hosting this year’s Doctor Who Prom! Her return to the Whoniverse has always been a source of joy for me, and I eagerly anticipate her immersion into the epic music of Murray Gold and the celebration of the Doctors’ adventures (and maybe a few monsters too).

As a die-hard fan of Doctor Who, I couldn’t contain my excitement when Catherine Tate announced that she would be hosting this year’s Doctor Who Prom as part of the BBC’s grand celebration for the iconic sci-fi series!

On Monday, August 26th, the Doctor Who Prom will feature an outstanding performance of Murray Gold’s magnificent music from the series, played by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.

“I am so looking forward to immersing myself in the music of the brilliantly enduring, shape-shifting Whoniverse, and celebrating the Doctors’ adventures (and maybe a few monsters) with you all.”

Initially, Tate entered the world of Doctor Who during the 2006 Christmas special episode, then returned to star as a regular traveler with the Doctor in season 4.

Lately, I’ve found myself back in the spotlight, reprising my character Donna Noble, opposite David Tennant, for the 60th-anniversary specials: The Star Beast, The Wild Blue Yonder, and The Giggle. It was a thrill to be part of such an iconic series once more!

The role of host for the event was earlier revealed by Gold in an exclusive chat with TopMob, expressing his delight as “Catherine Tate” has been chosen for the position. He mentioned that he admires her greatly because she’s a symbol of the show and even complimented him after the special episodes were aired. He exclaimed how fantastic she is!

The Doctor Who Prom will be shown on BBC One Wales, BBC Two, and iPlayer at a future time after it has been recorded.

The upcoming Prom promises an exciting show with “stunning illumination” and “distinguished visitors,” as the identities of who will be there remain a secret for now.

Previously, Doctor Who has performed at the Proms on multiple occasions, specifically in the years 2008, 2010, and 2013. Notable appearances during these performances were made by Freema Agyeman, Karen Gillan, Arthur Darvill, Matt Smith, and Jenna Coleman.

As a lifelong music enthusiast who has attended countless concerts and festivals, I am genuinely excited about this year’s festival lineup. With 90 proms scheduled – 73 at the Royal Albert Hall and 17 at various venues across the UK – there is bound to be something for everyone. The inclusion of popular artists like Sam Smith and Florence Welch adds a modern twist, while the presence of esteemed soloists, conductors, and orchestras ensures that the traditional elements are well-represented. I can’t wait to experience these performances firsthand and immerse myself in the rich tapestry of music that this festival has to offer.

BBC Proms takes place between Friday 19th July and Saturday 14th September 2024.
