This week, Marvel Studios debuted the initial episodes of the much-awaited “Daredevil: Reborn” on Disney+. Picking up from where the Netflix-cancelled “Daredevil” series left off, this show brings us back to Hell’s Kitchen and our beloved masked vigilante, Daredevil/Matt Murdock. Many of the original actors from the Netflix version, including Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Hensen as Foggy Nelson, and Jon Bernthal portraying Punisher/Frank Castle, are back in action, along with Vincent D’Onofrio reprising his role as Kingpin, who made appearances in “Hawkeye” and “Echo” within the MCU. While fans had lofty expectations for this series, it hasn’t quite lived up to their ideal standards so far.
The initial impact of Daredevil: Born Again lies in its shocking opening scene where an unexpected death occurs. This move has been praised for its audacity and ability to surprise viewers early on in the series. However, some fans have expressed disappointment due to the character who meets their end and the effect it has on the overall storyline. Regardless, this twist has piqued viewer’s interest about how the series will develop, considering a second season is already planned out.
Discussions among fans have also revolved around the fight scenes, which despite their intense nature, appear somewhat artificial thanks to CGI blood. The graphic violence has been a hallmark of this series, and with Echo ramping up the violent elements, viewers are anticipating the same level of intensity in Daredevil: Born Again. Another topic is the integration of the series into the MCU, as the show chooses not to pursue the Daredevil/She-Hulk relationship hinted at in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, but still features characters like Spider-Man. Additionally, there’s speculation about potential connections to the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, given that Daredevil is rumored to appear in it.
