John Legend is giving Chrissy Teigen all of his support.
After the author of Cravings, who has been transparent about her journey of sobriety, posted on Instagram on May 16th that she had started drinking again, the singer of “All of Me” commended her honesty by commenting, “I’m always proud of you.
Beyond the unwavering support from my husband of more than a decade, I was also encouraged by the uplifting words shared in Chrissy’s comments. Demi Lovato, a fellow traveler on the path to sobriety, penned: “Your honesty and vulnerability are truly commendable. It’s about progress, not perfection! You are doing wonderfully and I’m incredibly proud of you.
Jamie Pressly expressed, “I can clearly hear your voice, and I’m so proud of you, dear friend. Your sincere and unwavering honesty is as refreshing as a breeze.
Chrissy – mother of Luna (9), Miles (6), Esti (2), and Wren (22 months) along with John, openly admitted on May 16th that she resumed drinking after starting her sobriety path four years back.
39-year-old Holly Whitaker significantly impacted me, altering my outlook and the way I perceive alcohol as a challenge. However, regretfully, I’ve allowed it to return to my life, a decision that disappoints me deeply because I let many of you down. Each time someone told me on the street that Holly and I inspired them to reconsider their drinking habits, I felt immensely proud.
She expressed her frustration, saying, “I’m completely frustrated because I can’t enjoy a cocktail with my husband during our vacation without feeling awful afterwards. It’s exhausting to wake up sick on a Tuesday. I don’t want to feel the need to drink just to socialize. I despise how the thought of potentially having a drink can control me sometimes.
Regardless of the complexities in her relationship with alcohol, Chrissy continues to maintain a positive outlook on her path and expresses gratitude for the encouragement she’s been given.
She stated, “My connection with alcohol remains unhealthy and will always be abnormal. I appreciate your support as I’ve worked through this openly. To everyone navigating their own journey, know that I see you. And to the sober community, I am continually amazed by your strength. Until we reconnect.

Back in October 2018, the radiant star of “American Pie” shared a heartfelt Instagram post, celebrating a whole year of being sober. As an over-the-moon fan, I couldn’t help but feel inspired by his determination and resilience.
He initially attempted to become sober around five years back, as the burden of his excessive alcohol and drug use had grown unbearable for him. As it turns out, sobriety is tougher than expected.
He added, “Despite a few bumps along the way, I’ve successfully completed a year without alcohol. This achievement makes me incredibly proud. To those who are facing similar challenges, remember there is always support available. Never let embarrassment hold you back. Together, we can overcome.
In time, he looked back on his experience with substance abuse and the great measures he took to conceal his battle with it.
He shared on an episode of his wife Jenny Mollen’s “All the Fails” podcast in March 2024 that he is attending therapy and addressing various issues. However, following a productive therapy session, he decided to leave therapy, went to the liquor store, purchased a bottle of vodka, consumed it, and drove home as a way to escape his feelings and disconnect from reality.
He commented, ‘I had everything planned perfectly. I made sure not to get too intoxicated that I couldn’t talk to you. In fact, I kept refilling the bottles at the bar regularly.’
The two-time winner of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Cup has been frank about her past abuse of Adderall, a drug she used to cope with injuries during her university soccer years.
On an episode of the Question Everything with Danielle Robay podcast in 2025, she admitted to becoming severely dependent on Adderall and abusing it excessively. She would frequently take the drug, sometimes going without sleep for extended periods. The situation became quite extreme; she felt as though she was risking a heart attack. She would crush and snort the pills, which only added to the problem. Clearly, this behavior was detrimental to her health.
However, in the midst of her struggle, her college coach Anson Dorrance was there to support her.
As a fervent admirer, I shared her sentiments when the surroundings turned ominously dark. Anson, in his wisdom, urged me to delve into books, and one such book that left an indelible mark on me was titled “Man’s Search for Meaning“. This literary gem explores the concept of suffering and offers insights on how it can be redefined. The impact it had on my life is immeasurable.
The Valley star shared his decades-long battle with drugs in March 2025 after going to rehab.
During the March 4th episode of Bravo’s Hot Mic podcast, Jax confessed, “I’ve decided it’s time to be open about my struggles. I battle addiction, mainly with cocaine. Admitting this aloud isn’t easy.
As a seasoned lifestyle advocate, I’ve had an on-again, off-again battle with this matter since I turned 23, and here I am at the age of 45. There have been periods in my life when I managed to steer clear of it, but there were also instances where I found myself immersed deeply in it.
As a committed individual, I’ve chosen to abstain from alcohol, recognizing that it often accompanies my use of cocaine. It’s not about having an alcohol problem per se, but rather the fact that I can’t seem to indulge in one without the other. Consequently, I decided to renounce both substances altogether. I am proudly announcing that I have been sober for 82, 83 days now, marking the longest stretch I’ve ever managed without either substance in my lifetime.
In 2022, the star of Spider-Man: No Way Home decided to quit alcohol consumption due to feeling trapped by it. As he shared on the On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast, “I can’t deny I was addicted to alcohol; I won’t shy away from that fact.” He added, “Anyone who drinks a beer daily might have an issue with dependency.
Then comes a point when you find yourself thinking, “Oh dear, I probably shouldn’t have had that extra drink,” the actor added. The following morning, you might wake up with a throbbing headache.
After adopting this new lifestyle, Holland found that he has been sleeping more soundly and managing issues more effectively.
He mentioned, “In the past, problems on set used to upset me significantly, but now I can handle them more calmly. My mind has become clearer, and I feel stronger both physically and mentally.
I, a devoted admirer, seldom hear the man famously known from “Hunt for the Red October” openly discuss his nearly four-decade-long struggle with sobriety.
He mentioned that the topic doesn’t come up frequently, but he talks about it occasionally when it seems appropriate. He has been sober for 39 years now, achieving sobriety on February 23, 1985.
Discussing his life following his relocation from New York City to Los Angeles in 1983, Alec described his struggle as an almost daily challenge for two years. He admitted that he had used so much cocaine during this period that it seemed like he could have traced a line from here to Saturn. When they returned home, cocaine was as common as coffee; everyone was using it constantly.
And after quitting the drug, he soon turned to alcohol—only to also quit that dependency.
Today, he relies on the city around him.
He mentioned that New York has a calming effect on him, as if he continually discovers new facets of it. Every time he looks at a building, he’s amazed by details he’d never noticed before, such as unique doorways. His days in the city are filled with meals and coffee breaks spent with friends.
Back in April 2024, the actress from The Princess Diaries announced that she has been sober for over five years. In an interview with The New York Times, she expressed, “This achievement means a lot to me.
Her understanding was straightforward. She confided, “I instinctively knew it wasn’t suitable for me,” and found it intense to express, ‘But absolutely not?’ Yet, she conceded, ‘Absolutely not.’ If you have an allergy or experience a severe reaction to something, you don’t debate it. So, I stopped debating it.
She expressed satisfaction with her choice, adding, “I find things have improved significantly for me.” In other words, it helped me get out of a rut, which isn’t something I enjoy.
During her acceptance speech for the 2018 Woman of the Year Award at the Peggy Albrecht Friendly House, a home offering recovery for women struggling with substance and alcohol addiction, Moore discussed the self-damaging trajectory that almost hindered her professional journey.
The individual shared that they experienced pivotal moments in life that significantly influenced their identity and future trajectory. In the early stages of their career, they found themselves drifting towards self-destructive behaviors, despite achieving success. They confessed to never feeling sufficiently accomplished, but rather, constantly questioning their worth. This destructive pattern led them to a critical juncture in their life, and at the time, it was unclear why. However, they speculated that perhaps it was a divine intervention.
In 2012, Moore expressed gratitude towards two people she barely knew for giving her a sort of ultimatum to change her life. She jokingly said, “Unless I was dead, I better show up,” and further explained that this chance allowed her to alter the direction of her life before it was ruined completely.
Moore pointed out that they seemed to know me better than I knew myself. I’m deeply thankful for this, as without their understanding and faith in me, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
In 2022, Cyrus revealed that she has been recovering from her Xanax addiction since 2020. She expressed to Rolling Stone that the drug provided a much-needed structure in her life during difficult times: “I didn’t want to just be wandering aimlessly with my thoughts, so it gave me some stability.” She also added that it offered her hope.
The performer remarked, “When I thought I could momentarily mute the world and lessen your sorrow, it was all finished.
She mentioned that her friends back then seemed to implicitly support her drug habit, and it turned into a deep, bottomless abyss for her. However, during the pandemic, Cyrus admitted she faced difficulties and felt emotionally detached. “I was constantly nodding off and falling asleep,” she reminisced. “And I couldn’t keep my head up or my eyes open because I had sunk so low.
She eventually sought help and noted that “it took some time to get on my own two feet.”
16 years had passed since the former Parenthood cast member had abstained from alcohol, but in 2020, they resumed substance use by consuming Vicodin following a motorcycle accident.
Over the past two months or so, he mentioned on his Armchair Expert podcast, “I’ve been using them quite a bit during the day,” he said. “I can do this because I have a prescription for them, but I also take additional amounts.
He went on, expressing his dislike for the situation. “I’ve been deceiving others,” he admitted. “I realize I need to stop, but my tolerance is escalating at an alarming rate. Currently, I’m consuming about eight 30-milligram doses a day, which I know will lead to a harsh withdrawal. This realization has left me feeling terrified and incredibly isolated. And I can’t shake this overwhelming sense of secrecy.
Back in 2018, the actress who starred in Halloween opened up about her decade-long struggle with opiate addiction that started in the late ’80s following a minor cosmetic surgery to address her family’s genetic puffy eyes. This led to a prescription that drastically altered her life. She confessed to People magazine, “I had a 10-year run of stealing and deceiving, with no one being aware. No one knew about it.
In the summer of 1998, when her sister visited and carried some prescribed painkillers for a rib injury, Curtis realized she had hit rock bottom. As she recalled to the publication, tears welling up, “I knew she kept them in the guest room closet of our house.” Essentially, I took all her opiates. When she was preparing to leave, I knew she would pack her suitcase and notice her pills were missing. I felt compelled to confess my actions, so I wrote her a note and left it on her suitcase. Upon her return home that day, she hugged me, expressing love and concern for me, and voicing her reluctance to watch me self-destruct.
On February 3, 1999, she participated in her initial meeting, which coincided with the time she disclosed her struggle to her filmmaker spouse, Christopher Guest. He was astonished, stating he had never suspected it before, she explained. Since then, she has maintained sobriety.
As a lifestyle expert, I’d rephrase that statement like this: Drew Barrymore, who once sought help for alcohol and substance abuse, proudly declared in 2021 that she had achieved an incredible personal accomplishment. “For the first time in a long while, I’m ready to share this: It’s been two and a half years since my last sip of alcohol,” she revealed on CBS Mornings. “I’ve come to understand that it wasn’t contributing positively to my life.
She commented, “It’s quite amusing. Unveiling ourselves, our secrets, and what we’ve tirelessly built brings a sense of both freedom and vulnerability simultaneously.
Later on, Barrymore clarified to the Los Angeles Times that she prefers not to be labeled as “sober,” as she doesn’t wish to give the impression that she is a flawless or overly righteous individual.
In 2023, she reflected, “I had been convinced, ‘I can conquer this, I will find a solution,’ but eventually it dawned on me: ‘This is something I’ll never truly master.’
During the 2000s, the actor from “A Star Is Born” battled a cocaine addiction. At this time, his friend Will Arnett intervened and addressed his concerning actions directly with him.
Cooper once recounted, during his 2022 interview on the Smartless podcast, that it was then when he first acknowledged his struggle with substance abuse, an experience he would never forget.
Cooper acknowledged that it was Arnett who prompted him to make the decision to live sober. He explained, “Arnett bravely had a challenging conversation with me, which led me to embark on a journey of transforming my life.
The main character from Fight Club overcame years of alcohol addiction, thanks to Cooper’s assistance. He expressed his gratitude by saying, “I got sober because of this person,” during the 2020 National Board of Review Annual Awards ceremony when Cooper handed him an award. “Every day since then has been happier,” he added.
In September 2023, the former star of Cruel Intentions posted on Instagram that it had been the longest time since their teen years that they hadn’t used some form of nicotine or cannabis, along with other substances.
He expressed gratitude for the liberation he felt upon overcoming addictions and no longer needing substances, stating, “Being sober, clear-minded, and spiritually attuned just feels fantastic.
Following a public announcement about six years of sobriety during a tour in 2018, the singer shocked her fans when she released the candid song “Sober” later that year, disclosing that she had experienced a relapse.
Mom, I regret to inform you that I’m no longer sober, I apologize. Dad, please find it in your heart to forgive me for the spilled drinks on the floor. To those who have always stood by me, we’ve been here before, and I’m truly sorry, but I’m not sober anymore,” she sang.
A month later, Lovato was hospitalized for a near-fatal overdose.
Two weeks after posting on Instagram, she openly admitted that her struggle with addiction has been ongoing. She’s realized that this illness doesn’t vanish or weaken over time; instead, it’s a battle she must persistently confront and hasn’t won just yet. Now, she requires time to recuperate and concentrate on her sobriety and the path towards recovery. The affection you’ve all shown me will never be erased from my memory, and I eagerly anticipate the day when I can declare victory over this challenge. I’ll continue to fight for that moment.
In 2018, she talked about her struggles with addictions to both sex and alcohol. “My addictions shift, they change. When I was younger, I believe I had some sort of sex addiction, yes, that I thought everything could be resolved through sex,” she explained, adding that she also faced issues with alcohol abuse.
She recalled hitting a low point when she was alone in the house, with two bottles of wine already consumed and about to grab a third, she exclaimed. It struck her, “Wait a minute. Here you are, all alone in this house, reaching for your third bottle of wine? This might be more than just an occasional indulgence.
She shared, “I quit cold turkey, and I often find myself doing this. It’s part of my nature to give up habits abruptly. You see, I tend to get engrossed in things quite easily. Continuing, she said, ‘It’s not the action itself that matters, but the motivation behind it. The reason why you’re doing it. It’s the behavior connected to it that needs scrutiny. If you enjoy having a lot of sex, that’s fine, but you need to question the reasons for your frequent sexual encounters.
A member of the Backstreet Boys admitted to trying drugs for the first time prior to filming their music video for “The Call” in 2000. In a later interview with Good Morning America, he shared that he felt extremely energetic during the shoot. He managed to overcome his addiction in 2021 and experienced several positive changes within a year, such as shedding 32 pounds over seven months by eliminating alcohol and fast food from his diet.
In an interview with Today in September 2022, he stated that alcohol consumption led to an increase in his weight, yet it also had a detrimental impact on his emotional well-being.
Following Mac Miller’s untimely demise, the rapper previously known as Shad Moss opened up on Twitter about his past struggle with cough syrup addiction. In a series of tweets, he expressed:
“To my young fans – Stop messing around with these foolish drugs.” He then confessed, “I’ve got something to share. During the time we worked on the FACE OFF album, I was high on lean every day! When you saw me going off on Torae during the BET awards, I was high on lean. My behavior and everything else changed. My fans started turning against me, even my family.”
He revealed that while on tour with Chris Brown, he was consuming at least 7 doses of the substance daily. He admitted to being addicted until their show in Cincinnati, where he passed out backstage and ended up in the hospital due to withdrawal symptoms.
“I’ve never felt pain like that before,” Bow Wow shared. “Even though it was summer, I walked around wearing three hoodies because I was so cold. I missed the Chicago and Baltimore shows of that tour because I was high and sick! That’s not cool, and I was doing it to be trendy! Quit that stuff! Be a good child or sibling. Strive to be your best self. I’m going to start speaking out more. We need to save the youth from an early demise. Parents, watch your children closely. Talk to them. We want you all to live.”
He concluded by urging his fans: “To this day, my stomach issues…will never be the same, and they haven’t been. Stay away from drugs – it’s the way to success. Smarten up, tighten up out here. We can’t afford to lose any more of you. Not one! I love all of you. To all young artists around the world, don’t follow a trend. Break the cycle. PEACE.
2018 saw Gwyneth Paltrow’s ex-husband, Chris Martin, and she herself intervening in a challenging phase of her life, following the simultaneous releases of her fourth album, “No Shame,” and memoir, “My Thoughts Exactly.” During this time, she openly shared her struggles with addiction, admitting to excessive cocaine use and alcohol intake that left her “almost parasitically drunk.” The turning point came when an incident occurred at Kate Hudson’s Halloween party – she inadvertently headbutted Orlando Bloom and lost consciousness.
She confided in The Guardian, “I felt nothing could touch or fulfill me. One bleak morning, I recall contemplating, ‘Perhaps it’s the turn of heroin, since nothing else appears effective.’
During the 1980s, the actor known for his role in “The Parent Trap” struggled with a cocaine addiction that eventually led him to rehabilitation in 1990. In a later interview on “Today,” he shared that growing up during the ’60s and ’70s meant there was a significantly different perspective on drug use.
2018 saw him admit that he was using cocaine almost every day throughout the 1980s. He confessed to frequent pleas to God for help in quitting, promising to stop if only God would take it away from him, even though he had to be at work within an hour. However, by the afternoon, his resolve would weaken and he’d think, “It’s not so bad.” In simpler terms, he confessed to a daily cocaine habit in the ’80s, often begging God to help him quit, only to find himself feeling better about it as the day wore on.
In my own words, I’d describe it as a profound moment I referred to as a ‘white light experience’. During this time, I found myself facing the possibility of either losing my life or everything that held significance for me. Overwhelmed by these revelations, I felt compelled to share my feelings with my then-fiancée, Meg Ryan. This was the turning point where I ended my tumultuous relationship with cocaine.
Following an incident involving a door at his hotel room in Newport Beach, Ryan Lochte decided to seek treatment for alcohol addiction in 2018. According to his representative, Lochte has struggled with this addiction for quite some time, and it has turned into a harmful pattern for him. He understands that he requires professional help to conquer this issue and will be receiving assistance promptly.
Ryan understands that overcoming this illness is crucial for him to prevent making future unwise choices, to excel as a husband and father, and if he aims to reclaim top form in the swimming pool during the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
One significant factor driving actor Jason Katims, formerly of Parenthood, to abstain from alcohol was his relationship with Melanie Lynskey. Despite knowing that it’s not advisable to get sober for someone else, this connection played a crucial role in his decision to give up drinking.
During his interview on The Drew Barrymore Show in March 2023, he expressed that at some point, he realized how extraordinary she was and believed she would be perfect for someone who truly deserved her. However, he didn’t feel like he fit the bill, confessing that he sometimes felt a bit too unstable.
However, as Ritter noted to TopMob News, he now sees that sobriety is ultimately a personal choice.
In the beginning stages of our relationship, I found it simpler to express that my actions were motivated by her well-being, as I struggled with feelings of self-worth. At that time, I was more concerned about sparing her pain than enduring any myself. To put it plainly, it seemed easier for me to say, “I’m doing this for her.” However, over time, I’ve come to realize that my actions should be driven by a desire to better myself.
For almost a decade now, the nation’s singer has managed to stay sober, but the journey was tough and demanding. His struggle with alcohol and painkillers started shortly after high school graduation and persisted even as his career flourished. He kept a black leather laptop bag always within easy reach, containing bottles of Jagermeister or vodka, as he shared in an earlier interview with People. During the day, he admitted to needing two or three strong drinks every hour and a half to two hours, and taking a pill or two every three to four hours.
As he confessed, it didn’t hinder his progress in any way. He was very much on his feet, not just fumbling about. In fact, he composed even more tunes back then compared to what he writes currently. That was the alarming aspect.
Towards the end of 2011, he was admitted to the hospital with pancreatitis, and doctors warned him that if he continued drinking, he might not live to see his next birthday. However, he kept postponing his decision to quit and tried to moderate on his own by setting limits such as “I’ll only take two pills today” or “I’ll drink this much from the bottle and make a mark.” This would work for a few days, but then someone would throw a party.
Eventually, he recognized his need for assistance, checking into rehab on December 18, 2011. “I reached a point where I realized it was something I couldn’t handle alone,” Gilbert explained. “It infuriated me and brought great shame. I’m quite determined, but that was the one aspect of my life I couldn’t seem to conquer.
