63-year-old Chad McQueen, the son of iconic actor Steve McQueen, has tragically passed away. As reported by his close friend Arthur Barens, Chad, who was both an actor and auto-racer, died from organ failure on Wednesday evening. His health had been declining since a fall in 2020, an incident from which he never fully recuperated.

In 1980, when Chad was only 19 years old, his father, Steve McQueen, tragically passed away. However, Chad showed a remarkable likeness to his dad, particularly in his love for cars, motorcycles, and racing. Raised in Los Angeles by his actress mother Neile Adams, Chad naturally inherited his father’s passion. At the tender age of 11, he clinched a children-exclusive auto racing competition on the set of Steve McQueen’s racing movie Le Mans (1971). At 12, he secured victory in the World Mini Grand Prix dirtbike racing competition in his category.
Chad jumped into acting and got his first major movie role as a competing skateboarder in the 1978 film Skateboard. However, Chad McQueen got his breakout role in 1984 with The Karate Kid, in which he played the role of “Dutch,” the sadistic sidekick to Johnny Lawrence, and a member of John Kreese’s Cobra Kai dojo. He also appeared briefly in The Karate Kid Part II, but not the third film. There was talk about getting McQueen back for an appearance in Netflix’s Kobra Cai spinoff series (the show claimed Dutch ended up in prison, but it never panned out.
McQueen didn’t achieve the level of fame his father experienced after The Karate Kid. His subsequent roles were primarily in direct-to-video action films or flop movies like Jimmy Hollywood (starring Joe Pesci and Christian Slater). By the 2000s, he had left acting behind but continued his passion for racing until a 2006 crash during Daytona Sports Car race practice ended his career. By 2010, McQueen established McQueen Racing LLC, partnering with top motorcycle and custom car brands to create “high-performance, limited-edition custom cars, motorcycles, and accessories.
