Chainsaw Man: Explaining Power And Aki’s Unexpected Return

As a seasoned gamer who’s been through the wringer with manga like One Piece and Attack on Titan, I can confidently say that Chainsaw Man has swiftly climbed its way onto my favorites list. The recent developments in the manga have left me absolutely spellbound, especially the reappearance of Power and Aki.

Although the anime adaptation of Chainsaw Man is yet to reappear after wrapping up its first season, the manga continues to create a stir with its recent instalments. In the initial story penned by Tatsuki Fujimoto, Denji and Pochita experienced numerous hardships, but the latter half has significantly increased the tension for everyone involved. Recently, Denji found some support from the War Devil, also known as Asa Mitaka, only to find himself in trouble with a Primordial Fear called the Aging Devil. This encounter has led to the unexpected return of two characters, but not in ways you might anticipate.

Heed this notice: If you haven’t read the recent chapters of Chainsaw Man’s manga yet, be prepared to venture into territory laden with major spoilers. Last we saw Denji and Asa, they were grappling in a seemingly fresh realm crafted by the Aging Devil. In this strange new place, time holds no significance, and those confined within it have been trapped for decades, or even centuries if not millennia. This novel setting allows Denji to revisit old memories of those he cherished and befriended, as Power and Aki turn their backs, these memories become all too real.

Power And Aki Resurrected?

It’s important to clarify that Aki and Power’s reappearance in this story doesn’t signify they’ve been resurrected since Makima, also known as the Control Devil, was responsible for their deaths. Although Power holds the title of the Blood Devil, there’s no indication yet that she’s come back in another form, unlike Nayuta who is essentially a reincarnation of Makima. The scenes with Aki and Power are actually flashbacks experienced by Denji, as he struggles to understand why these past moments are suddenly surfacing in his mind.

Reflecting on past memories, Denji experiences a moment of clarity: “Every person I care about eventually leaves me. It seems like I’ve been through countless hardships. Yet, somehow, I managed to keep smiling. As long as there’s food and companionship, I have a reason to carry on.” This insightful comment, typical of Denji’s humorous personality, underscores the recurring theme in this violent shonen series: despite changes, some things remain constant. Despite being trapped by the Aging Devil, Denji and Asa have regained their composure and are making progress towards escape.

The Aging Devil’s Environment Revealed

In this new realm produced by the Aging Devil, Denji realizes he and War Devil aren’t fully present. Their physical forms remain in the actual world instead. Swearing an oath to Asa, the Chainsaw Devil intends to extract them from this distorted reality. It appears he has a strategy for their release, as they find themselves trapped due to the conflict left unattended. The world is not eagerly welcoming these devils back following their absence.

In simpler terms, the second main narrative of Chainsaw Man introduces significant changes to the world, including new characters, theories, and concepts for the comic series. Despite the current peak strength of the Chainsaw Devil and War Devil, they are about to face a major challenge from the Death Devil. Additionally, the Chainsaw Man Church and the Japanese government are planning to throw unexpected challenges their way.
