Chainsaw Man Stars Aya Hirano and Masashi Taniguchi File for Divorce

As a long-time fan of anime, I must say that the news of Aya Hirano and Masashi Taniguchi‘s separation has left me quite surprised and saddened. Their chemistry as Makima and Kishibe in the Chainsaw Man stage play was electric, and their real-life relationship seemed to echo their on-screen connection.

As a dedicated fan of Chainsaw Man, I was thrilled when Aya Hirano and Masashi Taniguchi, who played Makima and Kishibe in the stage play, got hitched earlier this year in Japan. However, just a month after their wedding, these talented actors have decided to part ways, leaving us fans in a bit of a shock.

According to a well-known Japanese magazine called Oricon, which previously reported on Hirano’s wedding to Taniguchi, the latest news indicates that they are seeking a divorce. This week, their lawyers submitted the necessary documents. The divorce appears to be amicable between Hirano and Taniguchi; however, rumors about the divorce have intensified after Shukan Bunshun reported that police may have been involved due to allegations of domestic violence.

The Story of This Chainsaw Man Romance

According to Hirano’s team, not every headline about the divorce was accurate, as reported by Oricon. The actress intends to clarify matters regarding the divorce when the situation warrants it. For now, however, Hirano is concentrating on resolving her legal issues, given that a divorce takes time to be finalized, and it seems her marriage’s end was unexpected.

If you’re not familiar with the actress, Hirano, it’s worth noting that she brought Makima to life in the stage adaptation of Chainsaw Man, and she’s a well-known voice actress in the anime world. Her most recognized role is Haruhi Suzumiya, which she originated in 2006. Starting her career in 1998, Hirano has enjoyed a rich and varied career in both voice acting and music. More recently, she’s been contributing to the iconic series One Piece, where she took on the role of Vegapunk Lilith.

Speaking from a fan’s perspective, I’ve always admired Taniguchi for his strong association with Kamen Rider. He graced the roles of Nagare Tatsumi in Kyukyu Sentai GoGoGive, and also donned the suits for Kamen Rider Amazon Alpha and Kamen Rider Falchion. Fast forward to 2023, Taniguchi stepped into a new realm when he embodied Kishibe on stage in Chainsaw Man, where I believe he crossed paths with Hirano.

What Is Next for Chainsaw Man?

As a devoted Chainsaw Man fan, I’m eagerly awaiting any news about a sequel for its stage play, but unfortunately, the creator’s recent divorce might complicate things. For now, we can only anticipate the production team’s next move. In the interim, the Chainsaw Man manga is a fantastic way to stay engaged with the series. The mastermind behind this captivating story, Tatsuki Fujimoto, is diligently working on the manga’s second half, releasing new chapters every week. If you’re keen on catching up, you can find it on Viz Media’s Shonen Jump app.

Without a doubt, the “Chainsaw Man” anime is causing quite a stir! It debuted in October 2022 with much anticipation, and MAPPA Studios has significantly increased Denji’s popularity. Currently, the anime is under development, thanks to its upcoming film. The title of the first movie, slated for release in December 2023, is “Chainsaw Man the Movie: Reze Arc.” This film will continue the story right after season one.
