As an ardent fan of Chappell Roan, I can’t help but admire her unwavering spirit and assertiveness. Her experiences at high-profile events have shown us that fame doesn’t make one immune to rudeness or disrespect, and it’s refreshing to see someone like Chappell standing up for herself.
Chappell Roan is standing up for herself.
At the Los Angeles debut of Netflix’s Olivia Rodrigo: GUTS World Tour concert film, the 26-year-old paused from taking photos on the red carpet briefly to address a photographer she claimed had been impolite to her during a previous event, confronting them directly.
She stated to the individual, as evidenced by several videos circulating on social media without showing their face, “You spoke to me in such a disrespectful manner at the Grammys. I recall you raising your voice at the Grammy party. Yes, it’s fresh in my mind. Your behavior towards me was extremely impolite. An apology is due for that unacceptable conduct. You owe me an apology.
Later on, the singer who sings “Good Luck Babe” stated, “I’m afraid you must apologize,” before a kind lady working at the venue gently persuaded her to leave.
The identity of the photographer has not been revealed.
On prior occasions, Chappell has taken issue with someone’s reportedly impolite actions at star-studded gatherings.
At the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards in September, the singer was angered when a spectator, believed to be a photographer, shouted “Shut up!” from the crowd. She turned around and retorted, “You shut up!”, followed by a finger-wagging reprimand, “Not me, darling.
She later explained her actions.
Chappell expressed to Entertainment Tonight that he found it both intimidating and unsettling. Being someone who easily feels anxious in confrontational situations, he was terrified by the rug (which seemed equally frightening). Consequently, he responded in kind, asserting that such treatment was unacceptable. He made it clear that he would not tolerate being yelled at in this manner.
The incident took place a month before Chappell called out some not-so-casual fan interactions.
She expressed on TikTok that just because mistreatment such as abuse, harassment, stalking, and so forth is often directed towards famous individuals, it does not imply it’s acceptable or standard behavior. She made it clear that she does not approve of it, does not see it as normal, and certainly doesn’t desire it or enjoy it.
The “Pink Pony Club” artist further expressed, “I’m not bothered if you find it strange when I decline a request for a photo, your time, or even a hug. It’s peculiar that some people assume they know me merely because they observe me online and appreciate the music I create. That’s downright odd. I have the right to refuse unwanted advances or inappropriate behavior.
