Cheryl Burke isn’t missing a beat when it comes to shutting down speculation.
As a former contestant on Dancing with the Stars, I’ve been noticing some chatter about my appearance appearing different lately. I want to set the record straight and assure everyone that any changes you might notice are simply the result of natural growth, aging, and personal choices, not plastic surgery or weight loss drugs.
In this TikTok video she posted on May 18, she clarified some misconceptions: “First off, I’m not using Ozempic, I’m in good health, I haven’t had a face transplant, and no, I didn’t get a brow lift.” She went on to express her surprise at the assumptions people are making about her, stating that it seems they view her as more of a news headline or a filtered image rather than a real person.
41-year-old Cheryl has noticed remarks such as “we miss the old Cheryl”, and she referenced her longtime presence in the public eye, spanning her time on Dancing With the Stars and The Suite Life of Zac and Cody when she was 21. Moreover, she views herself as a constant evolver, even compared to who she was in 2022, following her divorce from Matthew Lawrence.
Cheryl clarified something difficult,” she said. “Unfortunately, there’s no longer a Cheryl. It’s tiresome to keep correcting assumptions. The insults are downright mean. What’s truly astounding and painful is that so many of these attacks are coming from other women.
Ever since I turned 21, people have known me in the public spotlight. Over the last two decades, my appearance has evolved as I’ve grown and gone through various life experiences. I’ve faced a lot – trauma, divorce, recovery from addiction, burnout, and reinvention. I’ve healed, lost, grieved, just like many others. And yes, some of that journey is visible on me, but I’m not sorry about it in the least.
Currently, Cheryl is becoming increasingly careful and selective about discussing her physical self online.
She expressed her feelings, saying, “I no longer feel as secure as I once did.” It seems there’s a shift in the atmosphere on certain platforms that feels less like a supportive community and more like a barrage of criticism. Unfortunately, I see women criticizing other women, under the guise of concern.
In essence, she’s not tolerating internet users trying to interfere with her personal affairs on social media. Cheryl is determined about the kind of people she allows in her life as she navigates through future interactions online.
If your purpose is to guess, critique without proper authority, or ask questions beyond your rights, this isn’t the place for you,” she stated. “However, if you’re here to grow, learn, and assist, then welcome aboard! We’re excited about our journey together.
In the caption of her post, Cheryl continued to take a stand.
She wrote, ‘Quit examining women’s bodies as if they are yours to dissect.’ This is a gentle reminder to you: I am under no obligation to explain my healing process or anything else for that matter. Let this be the final time I have to address it.

Cheryl Burke openly confessed that parting ways with the Dancing With the Stars competition in 2022 was undoubtedly more difficult than her separation from Matthew Lawrence, whom she divorced during the same year.
In a 2024 episode of the Amy & T.J. podcast, she expressed that the program once held significant importance to her, almost serving as an integral part of her identity. She acknowledged that they played a crucial role in providing her with a platform to express herself.
Contemplating their three-year union with the actor from “Boy Meets World,” Cheryl thinks that her earnings from “Dancing With The Stars” may have caused tension in their relationship.
She shared that one can’t purchase affection, as expressed during her appearance on ‘Amy & T.J’. While she never bought her former spouse, it’s clear that she provided financial support for their relationship.
As a professional dancer on DWTS, the performer opened up about the difficulties of not having the freedom to select a dance partner. They expressed that once someone enters the scene, they don’t have the option to leave.
In 2023, she explained to Variety, “This is the world of entertainment,” emphasizing, “I’m a professional. I can’t just leave without notice or apology. That’s not how it works in this business. It’s a delicate balance.
In a clear statement, Cheryl clarified that the speculations about her having a romantic involvement with her “Dancing With the Stars” season eight partner, Gilles Marini, during their training sessions in 2009, were unfounded.
In an episode of the “Sex, Lies, and Spray Tans” podcast from April 2024, she expressed that there was a connection or attraction between them, but they hadn’t actually been in a romantic relationship, which she referred to as “chemistry”.
Despite acknowledging they were quite close, Cheryl made it clear that there was never any physical involvement between them.
During the process of her divorce, Cheryl delivered an unambiguous response to those who believed she was oversharing about her personal matters on social media platforms.
She stated during a TopMob News interview, “There’s no need for your comments since I am confident that I am assisting at least one individual. By the close of day, those who may benefit from this should perhaps pay closer attention and truly grasp that this is someone’s narrative.
In an open manner, Cheryl has discussed her path towards sobriety, revealing that the passing away of her father in 2018 served as the catalyst for her decision to quit drinking alcohol.
In a 2020 episode of the LadyGang podcast, I shared that my dad had passed away, and he was an alcoholic. Facing a similar path, I decided it would be either a downward spiral leading to rehab or a complete break from it all – quitting cold turkey. That’s just how I am – all or nothing.
And the Dance Moms coach isn’t afraid of showing her vulnerable side.
In a June 2021 YouTube video, Cheryl stated, “I must admit, maintaining my sobriety hasn’t been a breeze,” and confided, “When I hide things or don’t openly share the truth with everyone, including my audience, that’s when it becomes unsettling for me.
