The television series titled “Chess Masters: The Endgame,” presented by Sue Perkins, now has a broadcasting station in BBC Two. Viewers won’t have to wait much longer before they can watch this fascinating show on their televisions.
Last year, it became known that Perkins would oversee the competition featuring 12 dedicated and exceptionally skilled chess players. These contenders will engage in a series of preliminary rounds and elimination matches until only one emerges victorious as the champion.
The series kick starts on Monday 10th March at 8pm on BBC Two and iPlayer.
Three-time British chess champion and grandmaster David Howell will offer his insightful commentary, teaming up with expert chess coach and former “Traitors” contestant Anthony Mathurin to provide analysis throughout the event.
In her new position, Perkins expressed great enthusiasm about organizing the Chess Masters event, a competition featuring twelve gifted amateurs from various regions of Britain, who will engage in intense battles playing the timeless game of chess.
She went on to say: “Chess is about understanding psychology, planning ahead, quick thinking, and having a cool head – qualities you might not associate with my job, which often requires the opposite. As a commentator, I aim to explain what the players are thinking and translate their moves on the board for our viewers. It’s been over 30 years since chess has graced our TV screens, but the Chess Masters series will make that wait worth it.

Howell expressed his enthusiasm by saying: “I’m thrilled to join Chess Masters! Chess has played a significant role in my life, and I can’t wait to share the finer points and mysteries of the game with our audience, while also introducing them to the world of chess enthusiasts. Our contestants represent an ideal mix, demonstrating that chess is for everyone.
It would be a privilege to collaborate with Sue, Anthony, Curve Media, and the BBC, as we strive to introduce chess back to television screens in the UK after many years.
I’m thrilled beyond words and can hardly wait to explore and delve deep into the intense mental struggle that comes with competitive chess. There will be surprises along the way! Let the games commence!
