Chet Hanks Details Losing 27 Pounds in 3 Days at "Rock Bottom"

As an ardent follower and admirer of Chet Hanks, witnessing his journey towards sobriety has been nothing short of inspiring. The raw vulnerability he showcases in sharing his struggles is a testament to his courage and strength. His story serves as a powerful reminder that no matter how deep the abyss, it’s always possible to rise above it and embrace a life of health and happiness.

Chet Hanks is opening up about a moment that kickstarted his sobriety journey.

In marking his second year free from alcohol, a cast member from “The Surreal Life: Villa of Secrets,” who is also the son of Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, opened up about his journey, revealing pivotal moments in his life that prompted him to take his first step towards sobriety.

“Chet announced on an August 14 episode of the MTV show that it was his sobriety anniversary. Exactly two years earlier, he had just recovered from a three-day cocaine spree during which he didn’t eat, sleep, or drink any water for the entire duration.”

During my unforgettable journey to the dazzling city of Las Vegas, I experienced a life-altering event – a binge that marked a significant turning point at age 34.

“I lost 27 lbs in three days, so my disease is gnarly,” he added. “It’s not pretty. I went straight from Vegas, checked myself into rehab—again.”

Moreover, Chet, who shared his tale with fellow cast members like Macy Gray and Tyler Posey, took a moment to ponder the incredible journey he’s traveled thus far.

He observed that during the Vegas trip, he was 31 years old, penniless, exhausted, defeated, merely skinny, and at absolute rock bottom. He acknowledged that if he didn’t make a significant change in his life, one of two things would happen: either he wouldn’t be here anymore or something catastrophic, so devastating, would occur that his life might as well be over because that was the direction he was heading.

In a challenging situation, Chet managed to navigate through it and expressed that, using his own terms, he’s currently living the “best time of his life.”

“Life is good,” he said. “God is great. That’s all I gotta say.”

Following his revelation about a significant personal event, Chet expressed that it was an excellent method for him to celebrate the moment alongside his co-stars.

Later on, he expressed that it was satisfying for him. He added that people seemed to understand him better after this experience. It’s as if we’ve become a close-knit family. Everyone was there to applaud and encourage my sobriety, which truly touched my heart.
