As a seasoned gamer of the One Chicago universe, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement with Toya Turner joining the cast of Chicago P.D. for Season 12! It’s not every day that we see familiar faces gracing our screens again, and Turner has quite the impressive track record in Dick Wolf’s franchise.
Actor Toya Turner from “Warrior Nun” will appear regularly on “Chicago P.D.” TVLine reports that Turner has been cast for the upcoming Season 12 of the NBC series. In this new role, Turner will play Kiana Cook, a patrol officer who thrives on the thrill and intensity of her job and remains unfazed by turmoil. The twelfth season of “Chicago P.D.” is scheduled to debut on Wednesday, September 25th at 10 p.m. ET on NBC.
It’s not new for Turner to be part of the Chicago P.D. team, as she has previously made appearances in Dick Wolf’s One Chicago series. Specifically, she had guest roles on both Chicago Med and Chicago Fire. Furthermore, Turner also had a recurring role on NBC’s New Amsterdam. Some might recognize her from her role as Sister Mary/Shotgun Mary in the first season of Netflix’s Warrior Nun.
Chicago P.D. Lost a Major Cast Member in Season 11
Turner’s addition to the cast of Chicago P.D. follows the departure of a main character in Season 11, Tracy Spiradakos, who played Hailey Upton. Spiradakos had been part of the show since its fourth season and was greatly admired by fans not only within the series but also across the broader “One Chicago” universe, appearing on shows such as Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and even FBI.
What is Chicago P.D. About?
Chicago P.D. is a series that focuses on the dedicated team at District 21’s Intelligence Unit within the Chicago Police Department. This elite squad tackles some of the city’s most serious crimes such as organized crime, drug trafficking, and homicide. The show features Jason Beghe portraying Sgt. Hank Voight, LaRoyce Hawkins playing Officer Kevin Atwater, Marina Squerciati as Officer Kim Burgess, Patrick John Flueger in the role of Officer Adam Ruzek, Benjamin Levy Aguilar as Officer Dante Torres, and Amy Morton as Desk Sergeant Trudy Platt.
What’s Next For Warrior Nun?
Although Netflix ended the popular show “Warrior Nun” following its second season last July, creator Simon Barry revealed on social media in August that the series was being revived. Later, executive producer Dean English disclosed that the story will instead be wrapped up in a three-part movie series.
“I am very happy to announce that Warrior Nun is coming back as a trilogy of motion pictures. Once again, trilogy of feature films. Three,” English said. “One thing we need to touch on involves the strike in Hollywood involving actors and writers. And it’s due to that that we cannot make any announcements today on that front. Some may ask, ‘Does this perhaps infer that there’s going to be a universe being launched of Warrior Nun, which could expand into films and TV series following characters that we already know?’ The answer to that question is yes. And there will be more details in the future.”
