heads up: Chicago P.D. season 12, episode 19 spoilers! The actress playing Kiana Cook, Toya Turner, has given hints about her character’s developing relationship with Dante Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar), and what it could mean for their future. As a significant member of the team this season, Cook confronted her first criminal informant in episode 19. Her bond with Torres has evolved over time, although it faced some challenges following an undercover operation that didn’t go as planned.
According to an interview with ScreenRant, Turner discussed Chicago P.D.’s season 12 and hinted that Torres would grow closer to Cook. When questioned about a possible romantic relationship between them, Turner replied that it wouldn’t be romantic at this point. She expressed her preference for her character not to be involved in another romance just yet, but suggested that such a development could occur in the future as she establishes herself within the team. Here’s what Turner shared in more detail:
ScreenRant: Does Cook have a relationship you’d like to see develop more?
Toya Turner expresses that her bond with Voight has grown stronger, and she anticipates a more intimate connection between herself and Torres following this particular episode. She senses that our relationship is deepening beyond where it was before.
ScreenRant: I was going to ask about that. Closer friendly or closer romantically?
Toya Turner: Y’all are overreacting! [Laughs] That’s quite amusing. We’re just being casual at the moment. Just keeping it casual. That’s all. I can’t say for sure what Gwen is doing with our relationship, but I don’t believe she brought Kiana Cook on board to be involved romantically with someone else.
However, it doesn’t rule out the possibility that something may develop between characters later on, whether they are new to the show or already part of it. The current dynamic you see is simply a result of strong bonding among the cast members. That’s all I can say about it. That’s my take on things. That’s my favorite.
What Turner’s Statement Means For Cook & Torres’ Future
Don’t Expect A Romance Anytime Soon
Initially, Cook made a significant appearance on Chicago P.D., having previously served as a tactical officer before transitioning to patrol work. Later, she joined Intelligence following her role in solving Detective Emily Martel’s (Victoria Cartagena) murder case. Since then, she has shown herself to be an asset to the team, despite being relatively new to her role. As for Torres, he debuted during season 10, making him and Cook the most recent additions to the cast. This shared newcomer status explains their quick bond and frequent interactions.
Although the duo is expected to grow closer in future episodes, Cook’s statement hints at her primary concern being to demonstrate her value to the team for their upcoming investigations. While a romantic relationship isn’t ruled out, it appears that such development might not occur until Chicago P.D. season 13 or later. There’s no certainty about their eventual romance, given their strong chemistry; however, it remains uncertain whether they will eventually become a couple.
Our Take On Cook & Torres’ Current Relationship
Chicago P.D. Doesn’t Need Them To Be Romantic Right Now
For now, it appears that Cook and Torres might form a strong bond in the future, but their dedication to their professional lives seems to be more beneficial for their current dynamic. This could lead to a deeper friendship, enhancing their teamwork. However, Chicago P.D. may choose not to explore a romantic relationship between them at all, as their shared experiences on the job might ultimately decide whether such feelings will truly develop.
New episodes of Chicago P.D. air Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET on NBC.
