ITV is producing a brand-new dramatic series titled “Death at the White Hart,” inspired by the forthcoming crime novel written by Chris Chibnall.
On March 27, 2025, Chibnall’s new book is scheduled for release. The story takes place in the quaint English village of Fleetcombe, where the proprietor of the local pub has been discovered dead.
The narrative then proceeds with Detective Nicola Bridge, as she untangles a complex tapestry of deception and competition to ultimately expose the murderer.
In the UK and U.S., this groundbreaking novel marks the beginning of a two-book agreement. The editor at Penguin Publishing has announced that it will initiate a fresh collection of crime novels as part of a new series.
In a collaboration between his production house, Imaginary Friends Productions, and Red Planet Pictures, known for creating “Death in Paradise”, the ITV adaptation will be penned by Chris Chibnall himself.
Chibnall expressed in a statement that Polly Hill’s, ITV’s director of drama, enthusiastic endorsement of “Death at the White Hart” made it an obvious choice to adapt the novel for the screen with ITV.
This thrilling, British murder mystery, which captures the essence of contemporary life in the UK, has found an ideal dwelling place – ITV.

At the same time, Hill expressed enthusiasm, stating, “It’s great to collaborate with Chris and Red Planet Pictures once more, and I’m thrilled that ITV will be the platform for his impressive first novel, Death at the White Hart.
I believe this collaboration is ideal, and I’m confident that with Chris leading the way, the transformation will result in a riveting, hard-to-ignore drama. It adds an extra layer of significance for us that Chris is back in Dorset, bringing to life another British murder mystery and a fantastic, fresh investigation squad.
Chibnall is famed for overseeing Doctor Who while Jodie Whittaker was its star, and for developing the ITV series Broadchurch, which takes place in Dorset.
Apart from his other work, he’s taken on the task of adapting Agatha Christie’s “The Seven Dials Mystery” for streaming on Netflix. It’s scheduled to make its debut on their platform this year.
Following Chibnall’s departure from Doctor Who, original showrunner Russell T Davies came back for another stint on the series. Subsequently, he brought on another former showrunner, Steven Moffat, to pen two episodes of the new era titled Boom and Joy to the World. Moreover, Davies has disclosed that he reached out to Chibnall about potentially collaborating as well.
