Chris Evans, who was previously reported to rejoin the Marvel Cinematic Universe for “Avengers: Doomsday,” has recently spoken up about these rumors. In December, a report surfaced stating that Evans would appear alongside Robert Downey Jr., who is portraying Doctor Doom in this film. However, Evans kept quiet on the matter until now. His first public remarks concerning the accuracy of these “Avengers: Doomsday” reports have been made. These comments are significant as they precede the upcoming cinema release of “Captain America: Brave New World,” where Anthony Mackie takes center stage as the Sentinel of Liberty for the first time.
In an interview for a piece on “Captain America: Brave New World,” Esquire spoke to Anthony Mackie and Chris Evans. When asked about rumors of him being in “Avengers: Doomsday,” Evans swiftly debunked the reports. “That’s not accurate, though,” Evans stated. “This is something that always occurs. It happens roughly every couple years – ever since [Avengers]: Endgame. I just stopped reacting to it now.” Evans then echoed the same sentiment he expressed to Anthony Mackie when asked: “No, I’m good – enjoying my retirement!
Mackie also discussed rumors connecting Chris Evans to the film “Avengers: Doomsday“. “I wasn’t aware!” Mackie replied, chuckling. “I chatted with Chris a few weeks ago, and it wasn’t mentioned at that time. He didn’t seem to hint at it then, because I specifically asked him. I said something like, ‘They’re saying they’re bringing everyone back for the movie. Are you returning?’
In the role of Captain America: Brave New World, the actor afterward mimicked Evans, saying, “He’d say something like, ‘Well, I’m blissfully out of service.'” He added, “That’s when I found out. My agent demonstrated it to me. He said, ‘Ah, so it seems Chris is returning.’ That’s all I’ve been told. I haven’t received a script yet.
One actor set to feature in “Avengers: Doomsday” is Benedict Cumberbatch. Previously, it was reported that he would be excised from “Avengers: Doomsday,” but his character, Doctor Strange, had a larger role in its successor, “Avengers: Endgame.” However, this seems to have been rectified, as Cumberbatch has now clarified that his earlier statement was incorrect and he will indeed reprise his role as Doctor Strange in “Avengers: Doomsday.
In a conversation with Business Insider, Cumberbatch admitted, “I messed up on that one. Let’s see how it goes in the next one.” Yet, he cautioned, “Remember, never take anything I say as gospel.
Avengers: Doomsday will arrive in theaters on May 1, 2026.
