As a huge Star Trek fan, I’m always excited to learn about the behind-the-scenes stories of my favorite franchises. It’s fascinating to discover that Chris Pine was considered for a return as Captain Kirk in Star Trek: Prodigy. I can only imagine how amazing it would have been to see him team up with the young crew!
In the second season of “Star Trek: Prodigy,” now available on Netflix, the animated series represents a first for the franchise in both computer animation and being geared towards younger audiences. As fans eagerly anticipate a potential third installment, the show’s creators have shared some intriguing behind-the-scenes tidbits about what could have been. Co-showrunner Dan Hageman recently disclosed that they nearly cast Kate Mulgrew as Captain of the Enterprise in addition to her recurring role from “Star Trek: Voyager.” However, this isn’t the only notable franchise name that almost joined the show. Chris Pine, who portrayed Captain Kirk in earlier live-action productions, was also considered for a part.
During our brainstorming sessions, I believe we pondered over the prospect of investigating other universes at some stage, as co-executive producer Aaron J. Waltke shared with Screen Rant. At one moment in time, we contemplated introducing the Kelvin universe into the mix. However, due to the constraints of the ‘Cracked Mirror’ episode where they visit numerous universes, we didn’t have the opportunity to do so. Instead, we considered introducing that version of Captain Kirk and having him assist for a few episodes.
He remarked, “It was an intriguing concept, yet there were simply too many sauces in the stew for my taste. I believe it could have added enjoyment. However, it might have deviated from our narrative. It could have transformed our story into the Captain Kirk saga for a few episodes instead. Perhaps that’s what season three holds for us.”
Will Chris Pine Play Captain Kirk Again?
As a dedicated gamer following the Star Trek universe, I’ve been eagerly anticipating news about a potential fourth installment in the Kelvin Timeline. However, despite numerous rumors circulating for years, there hasn’t been any concrete update recently. Last year, during an interview with ComicBook prior to the release of “Wish,” Chris Pine shared that he hadn’t received any new scripts or heard anything new on the project.
“When egmr.ru inquired about potential plans for a fourth movie, Pine responded, ‘I’m not aware of anything on that front.’ As for reading any script proposals, he clarified, ‘No, I haven’t had the chance to look at any scripts yet.'”
From 2009 to 2016, Chris Pine starred as Captain James T. Kirk in a trio of films: “Star Trek,” “Star Trek Into Darkness,” and “Star Trek Beyond.” In these movies, he was joined by a cast including Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana, and Karl Urban. These films marked the first time “Star Trek” had been reimagined since its 1966 television debut. Notably, they paid homage to the past by inviting Leonard Nimoy back to portray Spock once more, thus concluding his portrayal of this iconic character.
Keep an eye out for further developments regarding “Star Trek.” At present, you have the opportunity to watch the initial two seasons of “Star Trek: Prodigy” on Netflix.
