Cillian Murphy actually won’t be in 28 Years Later, producer confirms

Contrary to previous rumors, it has been confirmed by the producer that Cillian Murphy will not be featured in the delayed sequel of “28 Days Later.

Cillian Murphy, now thriving following his Oscar victory for playing Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan’s film, spearheaded the star-studded cast of Danny Boyle’s initial installment in the sci-fi horror series.

In that role, he portrayed Jimmy, the bicycle courier, who emerged from a coma to discover a collapsed society due to a virus known as the ‘Fury Virus’, causing people to become like rabid zombies.

As a die-hard cinema enthusiast, I’ve got to say that Jim managed to make it through the chaos of the initial flick, but he’s been missing in action since the original 2002 release. Interestingly enough, Danny Murphy wasn’t able to reprise his role for 28 Weeks Later because of a scheduling clash with Batman Begins.

Last year, it was officially confirmed that the third installment of the franchise, titled “28 Years Later,” would be produced. Initially, it was reported that Murphy would reprise his on-screen character. However, producer Andrew Macdonald later clarified that this announcement might not be accurate.

He informed Empire that “we both desired his participation, and he was keen as well. Initially, he wasn’t part of the initial movie, but I anticipate there might be a role for Jim at some point in the future.

McDonald mentioned that he’s currently serving as an executive producer, and he expressed his hope that they could collaborate with him on the trilogy at some point in the future.

28 Years Later and its sequel The Bone Temple were filmed simultaneously under the direction of Nia DaCosta, who previously worked on Candyman. There was initial discussion about an enlarged role for Murphy in the second installment.

Yet, Macdonald’s remarks imply there might still be some uncertainty about it, potentially leading to confusion. Last year, in the Lake District, Murphy was spotted shooting scenes that were believed to be for 28 Years Later according to The Cumberland News.

Last year, towards the end, we got our first glimpse of the upcoming movie “28 Years Later” through its trailer. This preview was accompanied by a chilling rendition of Rudyard Kipling’s poem “Boots,” and it spotlighted Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the main character Jamie, who is new to the story, playing Kraven the Hunter.

Initially, spectators believed they saw Murphy hidden under zombie makeup as Jim in the trailer preview. However, it turned out that the undead character portrayed by Angus Neill, an art dealer and secondary actor, was not Murphy in disguise.

In my own words as a movie reviewer, let me share this: “I initially dismissed my girlfriend’s comment about the trailer resembling Cillian Murphy, but boy was she spot on! After watching the film, I’ve had to swallow a slice of humility. She really did know what she was talking about.
