However, Cillian Murphy, who played a crucial role in the original film, will not appear in this upcoming installment. Despite this, it has been confirmed that Murphy will be part of Boyle and Alex Garland’s new trilogy, but fans will need to exercise patience before they can witness Murphy return to his iconic character.

In an interview with IGN, Boyle talked about upcoming plans for the 28 Years Later trilogy, specifically the movie Bone Temple due in 2026. Directed by Nia DaCosta, this film is expected to bring back Danny Boyle’s character Jim, portrayed by Murphy. Boyle hinted that Murphy reappears in the second film, but he wanted to keep details under wraps to avoid spoilers. The Oscar-winning director also mentioned his involvement in the proposed third 28 Years Later installment, which hasn’t been approved by Sony Pictures yet. Boyle emphasized that each movie is connected and that they’re all waiting for the green light for the next sequel from Murphy as well.
