Prior to reappearing on the silver screen in the upcoming Peaky Blinders film later in the year, and after winning an Oscar for his performance in Oppenheimer, Cillian Murphy recently featured in the historical drama Small Things Like These (last year).
Initially, the movie premiered in theaters last November. However, it’s now accessible for streaming in the United Kingdom, which allows an increased number of people to watch it for the first time or prepare for another viewing.

In the movie, I take on the role of Bill Furlong. The storyline revolves around me, who’s merely a coal merchant struggling to provide for my loved ones. However, an unsettling revelation unfolds as I delve into secrets hidden within our local convent. This journey leads me to uncover truths about myself and the town’s dark past, all while grappling with the oppressive silence maintained by the Catholic Church in a small Irish community.
He added: “It involves much more than just his devotion to his family; it’s incredibly intricate. Although the church is central to everything in that community, it doesn’t encompass the full scope of the story.
In New Ross, we filmed, and upon visiting, one is immediately struck by the abundance of church spires. The atmosphere resembles that of a fortified town. It seems as if the history of this place has seeped deep into its very fabric.
