As a dedicated fan of the Russo Brothers and their exceptional storytelling abilities, I’m thrilled to hear that they remain deeply involved in the production of “Citadel: Diana,” despite the recent buzz surrounding their potential return to Marvel. Their involvement adds an extra layer of excitement to this already intriguing spy-thriller series, which is poised to expand into a shared connected universe.
The Russo Brothers continue to be part of the second season of “Citadel” despite rumors they’re returning to Marvel. As executive producers, Joe and Anthony Russo contribute to this Prime Video series aiming to build a shared universe. “Citadel: Diana,” the second installment in the franchise, unveiled an intriguing teaser trailer last week. The Russos are best known for helming “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame,” marking the end of Marvel’s Infinity Saga. Amazon has confirmed that the Russo Brothers remain engaged in the production of “Citadel.”
After the Emmy nominations were announced, Variety had a conversation with Amazon Studios chief Jennifer Salke and head of TV Vernon Sanders. The discussion eventually touched on the shows “Citadel” and “Citadel: Diana.” When inquired about the Russo Brothers’ involvement with “Citadel” considering the Marvel rumors, they both affirmed their continued participation in the project.
Salke confirmed their participation in directing, producing, and acting in the second season of “Citadel: Diana” and “Honey Bunny.” We’re progressing with excitement for these projects. “Citadel: Diana” offers a captivating character, an edge-of-your-seat spy genre experience, and impressive execution. The lead is exceptional. Raj & DK, our top Amazon creators, present “Honey Bunny,” which serves as a prequel to the “Citadel” universe.
Sanders remarked, “The ‘Diana’ artifact hailing from Italy, and ‘Honey Bunny’ originating in India, both carry unique tastes representative of their respective regions. Yet, there is a universal narrative at play. In the near future, anticipate updates on Season 2 of ‘Citadel’, our flagship series, as it prepares to begin production, along with the intriguing cast joining the franchise.”
What is Citadel: Diana about?
In the year 2030, Milan becomes my battleground in the continuation of Citadel’s story, eight years after its demise. I am Diana Cavalieri, a former undercover agent for Citadel, now living a solitary existence, ensnared among the enemy lines as a mole within Manticore. For years, I’ve been hiding my true allegiance, biding my time, waiting for an opportunity to escape this treacherous world.
All six episodes of Citadel: Diana will debut exclusively on Prime Video globally on October 10th.
