Although the start of Civilization 7 on Early Access hasn’t been flawless, many enthusiasts are excited to learn more about the future developments of this latest installment of the Civilization series. The developers have shared a roadmap detailing upcoming content and assured players that they are working on resolving major issues raised by early adopters. While the names of several new leaders and civilizations set for release in March have been revealed, Firaxis has been rather secretive about further details. This ambiguity has led some players to delve into the game’s code in search of clues regarding additional content for Civilization 7.
A Reddit user named ManBytheRiver11 claims that certain gamers have discovered hidden information within the game files which suggests upcoming leaders and civilizations for the game. Furthermore, it appears there might be a hint of a fourth era being introduced. However, this new content is expected to be part of paid DLC rather than a free update in the base game following the March 2025 updates in Civilization 7. While these files do not guarantee the features will eventually be released, they could offer clues about what may follow the upcoming updates.
Future Leaders and Civs Coming to Civilization 7
In the files we’ve mined, there are three possible names of upcoming leaders and five new Civilizations. According to the official roadmap, Civilization 7 is expected to introduce two new leaders and four Civilizations between April and September. It’s conceivable that some of these names could appear in the game during those updates. However, it’s important to temper expectations as these elements are likely to be part of the paid DLC rather than the free base game updates, which currently do not seem to include plans for additional leaders or Civilizations.
Based on the recent rumors, these could be the factions and leaders potentially included in the future paid expansions for Civilization 7:
1. Faction A led by Leader X
2. Faction B led by Leader Y
3. Faction C led by Leader Z
4. And so forth…
(Note that this is subject to change as the game developers may adjust the roster based on various factors.)
New Leaders
- Edward Teach
- Sayyida-al-Hurra
- Whina Cooper
New Civs
- Ottomans
- Maori
- Tonga
- Pirate Republic
- Iceland
Fourth Age
- Atomic Age
So according to the Asset Cloud.env in the civilization 7 file, it seems we’re getting a fourth atomic age.

Even though these names appear in the code, it doesn’t automatically mean they will be part of upcoming content. Occasionally, abandoned content can remain in game files without ever being released. However, whispers about a future DLC featuring a Fourth Age have been spreading, which has led many players to interpret this discovery as a strong hint.
Although some players are excited about potential new features, many remain hesitant towards the game’s DLC model that requires payment. This strategy has been likened to that of The Sims 4, a game infamous for its reliance on a continuously expanding collection of paid add-ons to keep it going. While fans may grumble about this approach, it has proven successful for The Sims 4, maintaining an active community even with the base game being more than a decade old. It remains to be seen if Civilization 7 can follow suit by duplicating this success with their Right to Rule DLC and future paid content plans.
