Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 physical editions running out of stock following sky-high demand

It’s been some week for Sandfall Interactive.

Following impressive critical acclaim with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the game has experienced tremendous market triumph, managing to sell a million units just three days after its launch.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but share my excitement! The game’s success is undeniable, and it seems even the physical copies are struggling to keep up with demand. Some retailers are already running low on stock, which speaks volumes about the game’s popularity.

Recently, I noticed that physical copies of the game I’ve been eagerly anticipating are quickly disappearing from stores’ shelves, and the developers themselves have confirmed this on their official Twitter account.

The suppliers we work with are examining the possibility of restocking due to unexpected high demand in several areas. Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

Prior to its launch, there was already a lot of anticipation for the game. However, the frenzy surrounding it after it came out has been absolutely incredible.

It seems neither Sandfall, the developer, nor Kepler Interactive, the publisher, anticipated just how much the game would resonate with players.

In the United Kingdom, it seems that physical copies are still on sale at Argos. On the other hand, Best Buy and GameStop in the U.S. appear to have some items left in stock.

Approximately 96% of all physically-purchased Expedition 33 games in the UK were bought for the PS5, as suggested by statistics provided by Push Square.

It seems that this could be indicative of an increase in games being offered through Xbox’s Game Pass service, as Expedition 33 and Oblivion Remastered are among its most significant launches in April 2025.

However, as physical sales seem to be slowing due to limited stock, it’s worth noting that digital sales on SteamDB are seeing an increase instead.

Since its launch, the game has consistently attracted more than 90,000 simultaneous players daily, which is an impressive achievement given that it’s a single-player Role Playing Game (RPG) and reached a peak of 121,422 on Steam shortly after release.

The game continues to hold the number one spot as the highest-grossing title on Steam’s Top Seller rankings, besting competitor Oblivion Remastered in the RPG category.

It looks like we’ll need to keep an eye on the situation and be patient until the physical copies are restocked.

“Please stay in touch with your local stores for more info,” explain the developers.
