Without any prior notice, the household version of a popular arcade game has disappeared from PlayStation and Xbox systems. Back in the day when most video games were only available at arcades, these establishments were the primary source of gaming for enthusiasts. Games like Pac-Man, Galaga, Mortal Kombat, Space Invaders, Street Fighter II, Dig Dug, and Pong were some of the most popular arcade games, and they have continued to be relevant since their initial release in the 70s and 80s. In fact, many of these classic arcade games, as well as numerous others, have been adapted for home consoles and computers over the years. Sadly, it appears that one such adaptation is no longer available unless you already own a copy.
Starting this week, the latest edition of “Big Buck Hunter Arcade” for PS4 and Xbox One has mysteriously disappeared from both the PlayStation Store and Xbox Store. Originally introduced in 2000, “Big Buck Hunter” was a common sight in arcades at the dawn of the new millennium. Over time, various versions were released, with “Big Buck Hunter Arcade” being one of them in 2016, developed by GameMill Entertainment. This specific version was available on Xbox, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC platforms. However, it appears that all editions of “Big Buck Hunter” may be vanishing soon.
The popular game “Big Buck Hunter Arcade” is being withdrawn from both PlayStation and Xbox consoles, and it looks like its PC version will be next. In a recent statement on Steam, the game’s publisher, GameMill, informed users that the game, along with all its additional content, will be taken down from the platform tomorrow, April 15th. The status of the Nintendo Switch version has yet to be clarified, but it seems likely that it too will be leaving the eShop. The reason for this removal remains unclear, but it’s thought to be related to licensing issues.
The positive aspect is that despite Big Buck Hunter Arcade being removed from digital marketplaces, those who previously purchased the game can still play it forever in their library. Moreover, GameMill has produced physical versions of Big Buck Hunter Arcade that have been sold in stores for years. Consequently, if you haven’t bought the game yet, you might be able to find a used copy at a reasonable price in the future.
