As a thrilled PS5 owner, I’m excited to share that Sony is bringing back the beloved console themes with their latest firmware update!
In honor of PlayStation reaching its 30-year milestone, limited-time interfaces featuring designs from the PS1, PS2, PS3, and PS4 consoles have been introduced. Due to a high level of fan enthusiasm, these classic themes are expected to come back again in the near future.
On the PlayStation Blog, Sony announces that the newest system software for PS5 is set to launch on April 24th, 2025, and will be distributed worldwide in stages. This means some users might have to wait a bit longer than others, but rest assured, the update will reach everyone eventually.
As a gamer, I’d say, “To customize your game with a new UI skin, just head over to the settings, then select ‘System’, then ‘Appearance’. From there, you’ll find options for both appearance and sound.
As a gamer, I can’t tell for sure if the iconic PS1 startup screen will resurface, or if they’re just talking about the system’s themes. Only time will tell!
The firmware update will also introduce a new feature called audio focus, when using headphones.
Here’s how Sony describes it:
Enhancing the clarity of sound while using headphones or headsets is made possible through an audio focus setting that boosts faint noises according to your listening comfort, thereby improving overall immersion. This beneficial feature caters to a wider range of hearing abilities, contributing significantly to enhanced accessibility in audio experiences.
Activating audio focus offers you several pre-set options. These settings can enhance specific sounds in a game, making it simpler for you to concentrate on important elements like dialogues, soft sound effects, or voices during group chats.
The presets are:
- Boost Low Pitch: Amplify low-frequency sounds like roaring engines and rumbling noises.
- Boost Voices: Amplify voice chats, character voices, and other middle-frequency sounds.
- Boost High Pitch: Amplify high-frequency sounds like footsteps and metallic noises.
- Boost Quiet Sounds: Amplify low-volume sounds in a wide range of frequencies.
Additionally, you’ll have the ability to independently control the balance between the left and right audio channels, as well as decide on the intensity of the preset effects applied.
Once more, the update is planned for release on April 24th, and it’s scheduled to reach players in stages. Can’t wait for the upcoming PlayStation 5 firmware update? Share your thoughts with us in the comment section!
