Classic GBA Game Gets New Release on Nintendo Switch Online

The Nintendo Switch Online Game Boy Advance application has just added another popular game, specifically Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones.

Just like other games on the GBA app, Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones is accessible only to those who subscribe to the Expansion Pack tier. In June, a GameCube app will become available through this tier, but exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 owners. For enthusiasts of Fire Emblem, this opens up the opportunity to play Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, a game that is currently quite pricey on eBay. The game was revealed for the service during the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct earlier this month, however it won’t be among the initial games launched. A trailer for the Switch version of The Sacred Stones can be seen below.

With only one new game dropping, namely The Sacred Stones, Nintendo Switch Online has an extra treat in store for Fire Emblem enthusiasts. Not only does the classic Game Boy Advance title join the lineup, but also, the soundtrack for Fire Emblem Engage has been incorporated into the Nintendo Music mobile app. In all, there are 182 tracks from the game now accessible on the app, including tunes from both the main game and its expansion pass. This marks the second Fire Emblem soundtrack available through Nintendo Music, and we can only hope it’s a sign of more to come!

Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones has become the 25th Game Boy Advance (GBA) title accessible via Nintendo Switch Online. Unlike other Classic apps from Nintendo which have incorporated third-party games, the GBA app has solely featured games published by Nintendo so far. There’s a possibility that this could change in the future, but many third-party developers have chosen to distribute their older GBA games through the eShop instead. Titles like Mega Man Battle Network, Ninja Five-O, and Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow can be played on Nintendo Switch, yet they are only available through compilation releases or more recent versions.

Over the years, Game Boy Advance has provided an impressive collection of fantastic games, and it’s delightful to see more being made accessible for new players. What makes this even better is that this particular game enjoys high acclaim. Here’s hoping Nintendo keeps releasing timeless classics, as there are many more that haven’t been brought over to the Switch yet!
