Update [Sun 2nd Feb 2025, 5:30am]:
It’s not unexpected that Electronic Arts (EA) is re-releasing the original versions of The Sims on Windows, given its initial success on PC. This new release is marketed as The Sims Legacy Collection.
Even though it sold countless millions on the PS2, we’re a bit disappointed that the publisher’s preservation project doesn’t include PlayStation. There might be a chance that the initial games in the series could be brought over as part of PS Plus Premium down the line.
You have two options to choose from: Purchase The Sims: Legacy Collection and The Sims 2: Legacy Collection each for $19.99 individually, or opt for a combined bundle at $39.99 on PC. Each collection encompasses all the previously released expansion packs, offering great value!
Let’s reach out to EA to find out if they have any intentions to reintroduce some beloved Sims classics on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.
It’s been quite a challenge for me and many other fans to acquire and play the early installments of EA’s The Sims series in this current era, but that might be about to change! As per reports from Kotaku and a teaser from EA themselves, it appears we’ll soon see revamped versions of The Sims 1 and 2 hitting PC platforms. This development comes just as the franchise gears up for its 25th anniversary, giving us a great opportunity to revisit these classic games!
It seems the games might be playable on computers, but it remains unclear if they’ll also appear on gaming consoles. The likelihood? We think it’s somewhat uncertain, yet it can’t entirely be ruled out.
Since 2003, The Sims has been available on various gaming consoles, with a version of its original concept debuting for the PlayStation 2 that year. Despite some notable differences, the essential elements of the PC classic were preserved.
PS2 and PSP versions of The Sims 2 emerged in 2005, again somewhat different from the original.
On consoles, The Sims 4 feels more akin to its PC counterpart compared to how previous console versions resemble their original games, yet it still garners loyal fan bases.
Hey there fellow gamer! You know, I’ve been playing The Sims for ages, both on my computer and console. Honestly, it’s been around on consoles almost as long as it has on PC, but not quite as seamlessly. But here’s the thing – I can totally envision The Sims 1 and 2 making their way onto the PS5. If that happens, I’d expect them to run just like they do on my PC.
While The Sims primarily focuses on PC gaming, it’s possible that a console version could be released at some point in the future, but there’s also a chance it might never materialize.
Expressing enthusiasm, we’d be thrilled if earlier versions of The Sims games could make their way onto PS5 platforms. Even the modified PS2 ports are something we’d warmly welcome! So, what are your thoughts? Wouldn’t it be great to have The Sims 1 and 2 available on PS5? Share your opinions in the comments section below.
