Claudio Castagnoli Hypes Kazuchika Okada Match, Teases AEW ALL IN: London Plans (Exclusive)

As a gamer who has been following wrestling for over two decades, I can confidently say that the upcoming match between Claudio Castagnoli and Kazuchika Okada is one I’ve eagerly anticipated. Their history and mutual respect for each other’s abilities make this a clash not to be missed.

Claudio Castagnoli aims for his inaugural championship title in All Elite Wrestling. Known as the Swiss Superman, he joined AEW in June 2022, making his debut within the Blackpool Combat Club and besting Zack Sabre Jr. in a fight. Following this victory, Castagnoli secured the Ring of Honor World Championship and became a pivotal figure for the revitalized brand. Simultaneously, he participated in multi-person battles on AEW TV alongside his BCC teammates. After losing the ROH Title to Eddie Kingston last September, Castagnoli shifted his focus entirely to AEW, setting up a confrontation with The Rainmaker.

Tonight, Castagnoli will go head-to-head with Kazuchika Okada for the AEW Continental Championship on AEW Dynamite. This is their third encounter in the ring, but this time, it’s a one-on-one match instead of a tag team battle.

In simpler terms, Castagnoli said to ComicBook that he wonders how Okada prepares for him, because he aims to be his best every day. He added that he doesn’t change his training routine for a specific person, but instead strives to improve and compete with the top performers. He hopes he will fight The Rainmaker tonight, referring to Okada, as we all know the true Rainmaker, not the one who has been performing recently.

Over the past few months, Okada has shifted towards a more villainous role. He’s been working alongside The Elite and frequently resorts to underhanded tactics to keep his title.

As a gamer, let me tell you, I’ve been acquainted with Okada for more than a decade. We go way back, before he donned the mantle of The Rainmaker. Our friendship predates my time in WWE and might even predate my stint at Ring of Honor. Over the years, I’ve witnessed his journey from an up-and-coming wrestler to The Rainmaker, and I’ve been captivated by his accomplishments. I’ve always kept tabs on the wrestling world, eagerly waiting for our paths to cross. The prospect of competing against him has always intrigued me.

As a gamer stepping into the ring for Castagnoli vs. Okada, the location feels like old turf – the Utilita Arena in Cardiff, Wales. This epic clash is happening on AEW Dynamite’s Welsh debut. Back in 2019, I battled it out at this same arena against Ilja Dragunov during NXT UK Takeover: Cardiff and emerged victorious.

“Castagnoli mused about his experiences competing in Europe, noting that it had always been extraordinary. He cherished the memories from live events there, particularly his match against Ilja during NXT Takeover. That encounter was exceptionally memorable for him, and it was thrilling to step into the ring with Ilja and witness his skills up close.”

At the moment, neither Castagnoli nor Okada has been confirmed for AEW ALL IN: London, which takes place in four days and is AEW’s largest pay-per-view event of the year. When queried if a win tonight would secure a defense at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, Castagnoli remained silent but hinted that there are plans brewing.

“It seems I’ll need to hold off for a bit, as I’ve got a busy schedule ahead,” Castagnoli hinted playfully. “I’m jetting off to Mexico City right after my match for the Grand Prix, followed by a return trip to Wembley. My calendar is packed! I can hardly contain my excitement and it’s fantastic to know that fans are still eager to watch me wrestle. There’s some great action coming up!”

Tonight on AEW Dynamite, airing at 8 PM ET on TBS, Castagnoli will go head-to-head with Okada for the AEW Continental Championship, as per their challenge.
