Clint Eastwood Addresses “Phony” Interview in Rare Public Message

Clint Eastwood is clearing up a million dollar error.

3 days following the publication of what seemed to be an interview with the ‘Gran Torino’ actor in the Austrian newspaper Kurier, on his 95th birthday, he refuted any claims that he had communicated with them.

Eastwood clarified to Deadline in a statement on June 2nd, “There have been some articles about me in the news lately. I wanted to clear up a few things. Firstly, it’s true that I recently turned 95. Secondly, I have not given an interview to the Austrian publication called Kurier, or any other writer in recent weeks. The interview that has been circulating is fake.

In the reported interview on May 30th, it appears that the director, who happens to be Laurie Murray’s father, Kimber Lynn Eastwood, Kimber’s mother, Kyle Eastwood, Alison Eastwood, Scott Eastwood, Kathryn Eastwood, Francesca Eastwood, and Morgan Eastwood – collectively known as the Eastwood family members – expressed his views on the movie industry. He seemed to suggest that the industry is currently trapped in a time of remakes and franchise extensions.

Eastwood expressed his nostalgia for the past when screenwriters crafted films like ‘Casablanca’ within small bungalows on the studio lot. He has made sequels on three occasions, but his enthusiasm for them has waned over time. His belief is, ‘Either do something fresh or don’t bother.’

As reported by Kurier, Eastwood’s sage advice is rooted in his personal experiences working with major film studios over the past 30 years.

In this profession as an actor, I was bound by a contract with a studio and operated under the old system, which meant I had to continually learn new skills each year. Consequently, I intend to keep working as long as I’m still capable of learning something new or until I become genuinely senile.

Eastwood’s uncommon statements grabbed attention as they were a rarity given his recent absence from the limelight, with his last public outing being at Jane Goodall’s “Reasons for Hope” event in California back in April.

Meanwhile, the actor has been silently grieving for his deceased girlfriend, Christina Sandera (who passed away at 61 in July), but his youngest son, Scott, has stated that he’s been keeping a positive outlook.

In an earlier interview with People this year, the star of The Longest Ride stated that he is “thriving” or “doing well.” He was also described as being resilient and determined, much like a survivor or someone who keeps going despite adversity.

Clint Eastwood’s relationship with his eldest child, Laurie, blossomed later in life due to circumstances such as adoption and a lack of initial knowledge about each other. In an interview with Carmel Magazine in March 2024, Laurie (born in 1954) recounted their first meeting in her 30s, describing it as love at first sight for both parties. She went on to express that Clint is a remarkable man and their bond is one of deep, unconditional parent-child affection. Laurie also shared her happiness at being welcomed into a larger family.

Notably, Laurie walked the red carpet with her father for the premiere of Clint’s film The Mule in 2018 and accompanied him to the 2004 Oscars. Laurie is married to Lowell Thomas Murray III, and together they have two children: Kelsey and L.T., who gained attention during Michelle Young’s season on The Bachelorette.

Similar to her father, Kimber has established a career in the entertainment sector, with a focus on both acting and production work. As an actress, she’s featured in various films such as “Passion Crimes”, “Crossed”, and “Absolute Power” from 1997 which starred her dad.

Kimber, born to Clint and Roxanne Tunis in 1964, has also been involved in the technical side of entertainment. She has served as a producer on films like “Dominion” and “Rapture”, and is a skilled makeup artist who has contributed to shows like “Wheel of Fortune” and “Dog the Bounty Hunter”, as well as movies like Clint’s 2018 Netflix release “The Mule”.

Kimber is also a mother to a son named Clinton from a past relationship, and she married Shawn Midkiff in 2014.

Kyle has composed and arranged music for numerous films, including Clint’s movies like “Mystic River,” “Million Dollar Baby,” “Letters from Iwo Jima,” “Changeling,” and “Invictus.” Notably, the composer was accepted into Clint’s family by his first wife Maggie Johnson in 1968. He received a Golden Globe nomination in the Best Original Song category for his father’s film “Gran Torino” in 2009.

Interestingly, Kyle has also worked with his father on several songs. Despite this collaboration, he emphasizes his desire to chart an independent course, distinct from his father’s. As he shared with the “Belfast Telegraph” that year, “I understand that people are curious when you’re related to someone who’s that famous. That’s probably never going to change. The name attracts attention, but it can also instill certain ideas about you and your character. I simply aim to concentrate on creating music and putting in the hard work. However, I am extremely proud of my father and his achievements, and I enjoy discussing him occasionally.

As a lifestyle expert, I find myself intrigued by the continuation of a Hollywood legacy. Much like her father Clint, Alison Eastwood, born in 1972, has made a name for herself both on and off-screen. Not only is she his daughter in real life, but she’s also portrayed his on-screen child in films such as “The Mule” and “Tightrope.”

Her acting credits extend beyond these roles, including parts in “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil,” “Shadow People,” “Once Fallen,” and “I’ll Be Seeing You.” She’s also ventured into directing, with works such as TV series “Boned” and films like “Battlecreek” and “Rails & Ties” under her belt.

Given her upbringing in the film industry, it’s no wonder that Alison has been bitten by the acting bug. As she shared with Fox News in 2022, she spent a significant amount of time on set alongside her father and his close-knit team. This family-like atmosphere, combined with her dad’s playful approach to involving the kids, made her part of his work as well.

Alison, who retired from acting in 2018, is also a co-founder of the animal welfare and rescue organization Eastwood Ranch Foundation. She’s married to Stacy Poitras.

It’s quite evident that Clint and Scott share a family likeness, yet their bond didn’t always reach the level it has today. As reported by Esquire, Scott primarily grew up in Hawaii with his mother Jacelyn Reeves, while Clint was largely absent, engaged in his own pursuits. However, according to his youngest son born in 1986, Clint was present, albeit not physically.

It wasn’t until Scott reached high school that he chose to reside with his father in California. Since then, they have collaborated on numerous films such as Flags of Our Father, Gran Torino, Invictus, and Trouble With the Curve.

Scott expressed, “I’ve seized every opportunity to learn from him. I traveled to Georgia to witness him work on Sully. Whenever I can, I aim to be on set with him.” However, he has also undertaken separate projects, including The Longest Ride, Diablo, Fast X, I Want You Back, and a music video for Taylor Swift’s “Wildest Dreams.

Kathryn, who was born in 1988 to Clint and Jacelyn, often keeps a low profile despite her appearances at some high-profile events with her well-known family. However, she has made appearances on the silver screen in films like “Virus of the Dead,” “American Virus” (where she was also a co-writer), and “Jersey Boys.

It’s possible you recall Francesca, born in 1993, from the reality series Mrs. Eastwood & Company, where she featured alongside her sister Morgan Eastwood and Clint’s second spouse Dina Eastwood. Interestingly, she has also delved into acting, as well.

Francesca, daughter of Frances Fisher, was the main character in the series Oh, You Pretty Things! and has been seen in shows like Fargo, Twin Peaks and Heroes Reborn. She’s also had roles in films such as Outlaws and Angels, Old, M.F.A. and Queen of the Ring.

Moreover, Francesca has become a mother, giving birth to son Titan with Alexander Wraith in 2018. Regarding Clint, the actress expressed on Instagram that he’s an “excellent father. Excellent grandfather.

As a die-hard Eastwood family enthusiast, let me share a tidbit about Morgan, the beloved youngest sibling of the legendary Clint Eastwood. Although she graced the screen alongside her father in movies like “Million Dollar Baby” and “Changeling”, acting wasn’t the calling that it was for many of her kin. In an interview with Carmel Magazine, she herself admitted, “It was thrilling to share a scene with Angelina Jolie, but it didn’t ignite the acting spark within me as one might expect.” She went on to pursue a different path, earning a B.A. in screenwriting from Loyola Marymount University and furthering her education at The New School in New York with an M.F.A. in creative writing. In June 2023, she became engaged to Tanner Koopmans, and come the following May, they announced their upcoming bundle of joy!
