Close to You: Release date, cast and latest news for Elliot Page film

As a seasoned movie buff who’s been around the block more times than I care to remember, let me tell you that Elliot Page’s latest film, Close to You, has piqued my interest like no other in recent memory. Having followed Elliot’s career since his days on Pioneer One, it’s a delight to see him back on the big screen after a six-year hiatus.

Elliot Page’s latest film, “Close to You,” is now playing in American theaters, representing his first acting appearance in a movie after a six-year hiatus, since his role in the 2017 production of “Flatliners.”

In “Close to You,” the narrative centers on the character Sam, portrayed by Page, as he returns home after a long absence following his transition. This journey brings him face-to-face with unhealed emotional scars.

A new official trailer has been unveiled, offering a peek at the eagerly awaited reintroductions, among them a scene where a family member admits his unfamiliarity with the etiquette of engaging with someone who is transgender.

“What do you mean rules? I’m just a person, just talk to me,” Sam says.

Additionally, Sam encounters his long-time friend Katherine (Hillary Baack), which unexpectedly stirs up lingering romantic emotions.

In the trailer, Katherine remarks to Sam, “You’re looking fantastic, no question about it! It’s like you, only better. I absolutely adore it!”

Close to You was largely improvised, with hardly any written dialogue.

He went on to say: “Each scene serves a specific function, as outlined in the script, but what truly captivates me is when an actor responds not only to planned actions, but also to spontaneous events that unfold during filming. This method feels natural and organic. Constantly evolving, it leads to authentic emotions and feelings. It’s an emotional voyage like no other.”

The newly-added text reads: “Everyone in the cast, including me, were absolutely petrified before we started. Honestly, I was scared out of my wits. ‘I’m not good at improvising, what on earth am I doing here? Dominic will be so disappointed.’ “

Later on, it’s astounding to witness, as if by magic, events unfolding seemingly effortlessly. We got swept up in this flow, and although Baack and I exchanged a few words about what our school relationship might have been like, we preserved the novelty for when we were filming.

In a new role, Elliot Page (from The Umbrella Academy) portrays Sam, a transgender male character. After an absence of four years, Sam finds himself back in familiar territory with his family, confronting old emotional scars as he reconnects.

Speaking as a devoted moviegoer, I find myself often pondering about the unique dynamics between characters, particularly when they’ve been apart for an extended period and then reunite. The intriguing question that arises is: what kind of dialogues and interactions would ensue, given their past and the new perspectives they might bring to the table? Indeed, some elements of this reunion scenario strike a personal chord within me.

Additionally, Hillary Baack, known for roles in “You & Me” and “Sound of Metal,” plays Katherine in the movie. She’s a former classmate and romantic interest of Sam’s from high school, alongside Page.

Is there a trailer for Close to You?

Absolutely, here’s one way I might put it: “Indeed, it seems this movie offers a heartfelt portrayal of Page as Sam. His character appears to grapple sincerely with the complexities of interactions long-avoided with family members. Take a look for yourself:”

Close to You is coming to cinemas in the UK on Friday 23rd August.
