CM Punk Recalls Chaotic Backstage Reaction to His WWE Return

As a lifelong WWE fan who has witnessed countless matches and behind-the-scenes drama, I can confidently say that the upcoming CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre Cage Match is shaping up to be one for the ages!

Approximately a year ago, CM Punk made his comeback to the WWE after nearly a decade’s absence, leaving fans and wrestlers worldwide stunned since many believed he wouldn’t return. This surprise was heightened due to Vince McMahon’s resignation from his position just before this event took place. While much has been said about Punk’s controversial comeback in public discourse, few details have emerged regarding the backstage atmosphere during that time. In an interview with No-Contest Wrestling, Punk shares the feelings, chaos, and confusion he experienced as he stood in the Gorilla position before his music played.

Punk encountered Bayley and William Regal unexpectedly, who appeared surprised at his appearance. They exchanged brief pleasantries before he also ran into Stephanie McMahon. When it came to discussing their strategy, Punk and Triple H didn’t see eye-to-eye on the plan.

In simpler terms, CM Punk stated that he was feeling confused and overwhelmed since he didn’t know what to do next. He was trying to communicate with Triple H at a table, but the noise level made it difficult for him. His music played, and he expressed his confusion by asking, “What am I doing?” Triple H then suggested that Punk walk towards one of the cages, which were used in the WarGames match for babyfaces (good guys) and heels (bad guys). At first, Punk thought he had to go all the way down to the cage. They exchanged words, becoming more agitated in the process. Eventually, Triple H removed his headset and asked, “What are we doing?” After some discussion, they eventually resolved their confusion about where Punk should position himself during the match.

On October 5th, this coming Saturday, Punk will face off against Drew McIntyre for the final time, but this fight will take place within a Cage. It’s worth noting that Punk has had more victories in Cage matches compared to McIntyre. In his WWE career, he has won 18 Cage matches, while McIntyre has only defeated three opponents: Dolph Ziggler, Karrion Kross, and Sami Zayn. McIntyre expressed a desire to restore the “aura of Hell” associated with the Hell in a Cell match.

McIntyre expressed that he felt numerous Hell in the Cell matches were merely included for the sake of having a cell match, which is often considered the final option. To avoid this for a while and preserve its uniqueness, he suggested rebuilding the mystique around it. The story between Punk and him, driven by genuine dislike and mutual respect for each other’s skills, should organically develop. However, they reached a point where they needed to find a way to conclude this feud. McIntyre proposed that Hell in the Cell, the ultimate last resort, would be the perfect venue for a true blood feud to end, signifying a satisfying resolution.
