Coco 2 is Coming! But You’ll Have to Wait Until 2029 to See It!

Miguel and his family are set to charm audiences once more with Coco 2, as Disney and Pixar confirmed. The sequel was disclosed by Disney CEO Bob Iger during the company’s shareholder meeting on Thursday, and it is scheduled for release in 2029 – a span of 12 years following the initial Coco movie that grossed $814 million during the Thanksgiving holiday in 2017.

During the call, Iger mentioned that the movie is still in its early development stages, but he’s confident it will be packed with humor, emotion, and excitement. He can’t wait to reveal more details soon. Additionally, Pixar has already shared the title design, which you can check out below.

The sequel to Disney and Pixar’s “Coco 2” brings back the creative minds from the original movie, led by Academy Award-winning director Lee Unkrich (known for “Coco” and “Toy Story 3”) and co-director Adrian Molina, who is also a key member of Pixar’s senior team. The producer, Academy Award winner Mark Nielsen (“Toy Story 4”, “Inside Out 2”), oversees the production.

Although specific storyline details are under wraps in the Land of the Dead, the first “Coco” introduced us to Miguel (voiced by Anthony Gonzalez), a 12-year-old aspiring musician whose family has long shunned music. In search of his family’s true heritage, he embarks on a colorful journey to the Land of the Dead.

In this animated film titled “Coco”, Gael García Bernal lent his voice to the character Héctor, while Benjamin Bratt voiced Ernesto de la Cruz, a renowned musician. Alanna Ubach played Mamá Imelda, Renée Victor portrayed Abuelita, and Ana Ofelia Murguía voiced Mamá Coco. This movie was honored with two Academy Awards for its exceptional animation and the original song “Remember Me”.
