In a different phrasing, the ITV crime drama titled “Code of Silence” features Rose Ayling-Ellis as a talented individual with extraordinary lip-reading abilities, who assists the police in their mission to dismantle a criminal organization, due to her deafness.
Ayling-Ellis explained that when she started working at the train station café, she noted on the computer system that she was Deaf and could read lips, out of curiosity to observe how things would unfold.
When their usual lip-reader is absent, they resort to her assistance. Over time, she expresses a growing desire for increased participation – after all, what have they got to lose?
If she chooses not to seize that opportunity, it’s likely that the police will escort her back to where she started with gratitude. Taking this chance seems to provide her with a sense of purpose.
When asked about what she was most looking forward to regarding her participation in the show, Ayling-Ellis commented: “It provides a more genuine portrayal of a Deaf person interpreting lip movements. It’s crucial to be true to the experiences of Deaf individuals, but at the same time, it needs to be an engaging drama, so there should be a blend of both aspects.
The central figure in “Code of Silence” is deaf, which is significant and cannot be overlooked, yet there are also other complex aspects to her character.
Later on, Ayling-Ellis delved into the topic of Catherine Moulton, a person who is partly deaf and proficient in reading lips, herself.
After making up her mind to master the skill of lip reading, she found out that it turned out to be harder than she initially anticipated. This discovery was particularly thrilling for her because it wasn’t only her sharing the experience, but others too, gaining insight into what it means to be Deaf.
For instance, people often assume that lip reading allows you to understand speech from afar and observe everything someone says, but this isn’t always the case. Lip reading is actually a challenging puzzle, and this becomes evident in ‘Code of Silence.’

As a movie enthusiast, I found myself among familiar stars alongside Lea Marlene Ayling-Ellis, and there were also some fresh faces that may not be as recognizable to all viewers.

In the storyline, we meet Liam, a young computer whiz with an intriguing past, who has recently joined their group. As the series unfolds, he develops a strong bond with Alison.
I’m curious about what other projects Kieron Moore has been involved with, as he’s appeared in Vampire Academy, Masters of the Air, and Sex Education.

What about this character, we’re talking about someone who is a seasoned detective inspector, tirelessly working to dismantle an infamous criminal group, aiming to thwart their upcoming, most significant heist?

As a cinephile, I might say: “I wonder who this fellow is, Mark? Seems like he runs things at Braden’s pub. He was smitten by Alison during their first meeting and offered her a job behind the bar – quite a charming chap, he didn’t share that tidbit with James and his crew.
Have you noticed Colin Hoult in any other shows or movies? He’s also appeared in After Life, Almost Never, Black Ops, and The Flatshare.
Additional cast includes:
