Cody Rhodes “Actively Working” to Bring Back Winged Eagle WWE Championship Belt

As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the world of professional wrestling, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia and excitement when it comes to Cody Rhodes and his quest for the “Winged Eagle” WWE Championship. Growing up, the iconic design was synonymous with the WWE, and seeing legends like Hulk Hogan, Bret Hart, and The Undertaker bearing that title belt was nothing short of awe-inspiring.

At WWE WrestleMania 40 last April, Cody Rhodes, also known as The American Nightmare, overcame Roman Reigns. This marked the end of Tribal Chief’s 1,316-day reign as WWE’s primary champion. Interestingly, this is the first time a member of his wrestling dynasty has officially claimed the longstanding sports-entertainment title. Previously, Cody Rhodes’ father, WWE Hall of Famer Dusty Rhodes, only managed to win his title matches by countout, meaning he never technically took the title from another champion. Despite the current belt being different from the one Dusty pursued in the 70s and 80s, it still shares a storied history with that earlier prize.

Previously this year, WWE made their way to Madison Square Garden for an episode of WWE SmackDown. Following the conclusion of the live broadcast, Cody stepped into the ring to reveal a red-strapped WWF Heavyweight Title that his father had previously contended for. He posed with this title design in the very arena where his father, Dusty, won against “Superstar” Billy Graham by countout back in 1977.

Cody Rhodes Still Wants Winged Eagle WWE Championship

Despite having previously held the very title that symbolizes the American Dream, Cody Rhodes continues his quest to reintroduce a unique WWE Championship design that holds special significance for him.

In conversation with Superstar Crossover, Cody mentioned that he’s diligently working to reintroduce the “Winged Eagle” edition of the WWE Championship during his tenure as champion.

Cody replied, “It’s great you asked about the ‘Winged Eagle Title.’ To clarify, I am still pursuing it. In fact, I’ve always made good on my promises, even if it was only for a brief moment. So, I’m diligently working towards achieving it.

From 1988 until about the turn of the millennium, the WWE Championship was symbolized by the “Winged Eagle” design, serving as the primary physical emblem of the WWE. Legendary WWE Hall of Famers like Hulk Hogan, Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, The Undertaker, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, and others held the title during this period, each bearing the distinctive Winged Eagle design on their championship belts.

Reflecting on my past, the WWE I used to watch felt like an embodiment of the Winged Eagle for me. The modern logo with the giant W holds a unique charm as it serves as a beacon for the brand, but it was more like a distant dream back then. When I express this desire and share the idea of reviving the Winged Eagle, I don’t intend to suggest that it’s going to happen or that I’m planning to start my own business.
