Cody Rhodes Chooses Next Challenger for Undisputed WWE Title on SmackDown

As a lifelong wrestling fan who’s seen more matches than I care to count, I must say that the upcoming bout between Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens at Bash in Berlin is shaping up to be a real treat! The chemistry these two have built over the years is palpable, and their past encounters have always been thrilling.

Tonight on WWE SmackDown, Cody Rhodes kicked off the show, but the aftermath of SummerSlam dominated the conversation, despite Rhodes’ intentions to focus on what’s ahead. However, just as Rhodes was about to declare his challenger for Bash in Berlin, Solo Sikoa appeared and demanded a re-match. Rhodes dismissed him, but then mentioned Roman Reigns’ return, with Kevin Owens stepping in to deter The Bloodline. This interaction led Rhodes to announce Kevin Owens as his next opponent, expressing his determination to make it happen.

A Rematch Demanded

As I strode towards the grand unveiling of my next battle contender, Sikoa stepped out flanked by Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa. Grabbing a mic, he hurled a jab at the audience before setting his sights on me. “Let’s discuss SummerSlam,” he declared. “Had I reigned victorious, I would have been the Champion. So before you make any more moves against these people, you will grant me a rematch for that Title.”

“So, I said I didn’t want to talk about the past, but you want to talk about SummerSlam. Where you could not get the job done on your own and you caused Jacob Fatu to get hurt,” Rhodes said. “The same SummerSlam that you have set Roman Reigns on a warpath because you’ve been cosplaying as the Tribal Chief,” Rhodes said. Rhodes took a few more jabs at Sikoa and then said “You are absolutely 100% unequivocally delusional if you think you have any claim to a rematch. So Solo, what do you want to talk about?”

Trusted Ally and New Challenger

Initially, Sikoa aimed to assault Rhodes, yet when The Bloodline drew near the ring, Rhodes received aid from Kevin Owens. Swiftly entering the scene, Owens was armed with two chairs. This tactic successfully pushed back The Bloodline, but as they retreated, Sikoa declared, “I’ll settle things with you later once I locate Roman Reigns.” In response, Rhodes stated, “I’ll be here and ready whenever you are.”

At that point, Rhodes prevented Owens from departing and expressed, “Kevin, I understand this might be an awkward and uncomfortable situation, and given our history, I expect your answer will be no. However, let me reiterate what I was saying earlier before I was interrupted: who I’d like to face for the WWE Championship. Kevin, my preference is you.”

“Although I’m touched by their support, I don’t feel I’ve earned a Title match yet,” Owens stated. “Title fights should be won through merit, and I haven’t accomplished that.” The crowd chanted “You deserve it,” to which Rhodes responded, “That’s what they’re saying, you know? They think you deserve it.” However, Owens continued to disagree, and eventually, Rhodes brought the issue to Nick Aldis. Aldis then announced he would discuss a rematch with Roman Reigns, but Owens made clear that he didn’t feel deserving of one, given his history of cheating numerous times. Convinced by Owens’ argument that others should also get their chance, Aldis set the match for Bash in Berlin as official.
