Cody Rhodes Says WWE Return “Rekindled” His Love For Pro Wrestling

As a lifelong wrestling enthusiast who has watched Cody Rhodes rise from the indies to the WWE and back again, it’s fascinating to witness his journey. I remember when he was one of the faces of AEW, going toe-to-toe with some of the biggest names in the business. But then, something changed – the crowd turned on him, and his star seemed to wane.

Cody Rhodes has been absent from wrestling rings outside of WWE for more than two and a half years now. He joined All Elite Wrestling (AEW) three years ago before rejoining WWE in April 2022. While with AEW, Rhodes was one of the key figures, having played a significant role in the company’s formation. This visibility extended to promotional materials and, in the ring, he took part in high-profile matches against his brother Dustin Rhodes, Chris Jericho (then AEW World Champion), and Maxwell Jacob Friedman.

By late Autumn of 2021, Rhodes started to lose approval from the AEW spectators. Frequently, crowds would spurn Rhodes as a heroic character, and online fans would persistently advocate for him to switch sides to the villainous one. Rhodes was omitted from the AEW All Out 2021 roster and ended up in a meaningless match at AEW Full Gear 2021. His last significant conflict was a renewed feud with Sammy Guevara, which unfolded entirely on AEW television.

Cody Rhodes Love For Pro Wrestling “Rekindled” in WWE

The American Nightmare’s passion for pro wrestling began burning once again upon his WWE return.

Upon my return, it had sparked a renewal within me,” Rhodes expressed on So, What Do You Want To Talk About?. “Not only did it reignite my passion for professional wrestling, but it sparked the belief that I could reach the pinnacle. The possibility of success is still alive.”

In addition to his wrestling performances at AEW, Cody Rhodes also held a role as an Executive Vice President within the company. Prior to their television premiere, Rhodes actively sought out and brought up-and-coming independent wrestlers onto the roster. He is recognized for introducing talents such as MJF and Darby Allin.

In his thoughts, Rhodes admitted he was deeply engrossed in the thrill of the revolution and yearned to be the one everyone relied upon during this transformative time. He aspired to be the trusted figure as significant changes unfolded. Similarly, as the world of wrestling expanded with independent wrestlers transitioning to prime-time television, he desired to embody the symbol of this transformation. He confesses that he invested a lot in achieving this, often neglecting to question if his efforts were effective or not.

As a seasoned gamer and long-time wrestling fan, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming WWE SummerSlam event this Saturday, August 3rd! I’ve been following Rhodes’ career closely and it’ll be thrilling to see him defend the WWE Championship against the formidable Solo Sikoa. With years of gaming experience under my belt, I can sense the tension building up as I imagine the epic showdown between these two titans. Let’s hope for a nail-biting finish and some breathtaking moves that will leave me on the edge of my seat!
