Actor Colson Smith, who’s soon leaving Coronation Street, shares insights about his upcoming departure from the TV series.
Since 2011, the actor has portrayed Craig Tinker in the show, making his debut just before his 13th birthday. Now, he’s preparing for a fresh start as his character says goodbye to the well-known cobblestone streets.
Yesterday on Good Morning Britain, Smith shared that he wrapped up filming for the ongoing series about three weeks ago, with plans to broadcast the final scenes sometime in May.
He expressed that he would continue to experience strong feelings of nostalgia (or sentiment) upon departing, as he would forever miss the location, which had been his home and family for a significant period in his life. The individuals there played a crucial role in his personal development.
Experiencing a significant change after dedicating 14 years to a certain activity and no longer being involved in it is exhilarating. I’m eager to explore new experiences and enjoy myself. This transition feels like the beginning of a fresh, new phase in my life.

Growing up was essentially played out on television for the public to see, with Smith. Reflecting upon his departure from the cast and crew, he reminisced about significant moments in his life that unfolded within the nurturing environment of the Coronation Street set.
In a recent episode of my podcast, On the Sofa, co-hosted with Coronation Street stars Jack P Shepherd and Ben Price, I expressed my profound gratitude in a manner that fell far short. It barely scratched the surface of what I truly wanted to convey.
Co-host Shepherd has just stepped into Smith’s path by moving into the Celebrity Big Brother residence, where Smith achieved a strong performance back in 2024, eventually finishing in third place overall.
On Good Morning Britain, Smith shared some advice with Shepherd. Essentially, he suggested that she should enter the show with joy since it’s a unique opportunity, and one doesn’t often get to participate in such a program. So, she should seize the moment and have a great time.
Although I had asked him to secure a bed, given that he entered the bedroom last, it seems like he may not have been paying attention to what I said.
