As a long-time fan who’s been following Billy Crystal‘s career since his days as Jodie Dallas on Soap, I must say I was taken aback when I heard he would be stepping into the world of psychological thrillers with Apple TV+’s Before. But after watching the trailer and learning about the stellar cast, including Judith Light, Jacobi Jupe, Rosie Perez, Maria Dizzia, and Ava Lalezarzadeh, my curiosity is definitely piqued!
Thanks to films like “When Harry Met Sally”, “Analyze This”, and “City Slickers”, as well as his long career as a stand-up comedian, Billy Crystal is indisputably a comic genius. Although he frequently elicits positive responses from audiences, he’s become more selective in his choices lately, which is why it was such a shock to fans that he would be appearing in the Apple TV+ series “Before”. What makes this project even more surprising is that instead of being a comedy series, “Before” is described as a psychological thriller. You can watch the trailer for Crystal in “Before” below before the series premieres on Apple TV+ on October 25th.
In addition to Crystal, the supernatural mystery series features an impressive cast that includes multiple Emmy and Tony Award-winner Judith Light, Jacobi Jupe, Emmy Award nominee Rosie Perez, Tony Award nominee Maria Dizzia, and Ava Lalezarzadeh.
Initially, Dr. Crystal, having just lost his spouse Lynn, meets a distressed youngster named Noah. It appears that Noah shares an eerie link with Crystal’s past, which becomes more enigmatic as Crystal tries to aid him. Over time, their peculiar relationship intensifies.
This first trailer suggests that instead of a standard horror series, the storyline seems to incorporate intriguing elements, which may have captivated Crystal’s interest. The tone appears to be a mix of intriguing concepts, and it remains unclear where this adventure will lead our characters. However, it’s unlikely that this journey will follow a straightforward path like other mystery narratives.
When it comes to choosing streaming platforms, there are numerous subscriptions available, but Apple TV+ is steadily expanding its collection of genre shows. Shows like “For All Mankind,” “See” featuring Jason Momoa, and M. Night Shyamalan’s “Servant” were some of the titles that initially gained prominence for the platform when it first launched in 2019.
Additional titles introduced for this streaming service include the eagerly anticipated adaptations of Stephen King’s “Lisey’s Story”, the science fiction series “Foundation” and “Invasion”, and “Shining Girls” starring Elisabeth Moss. Lately, the series “Severance” and “Silo” have garnered significant attention within the streaming community, with both shows planning for a second season.
Recently, Crystal hasn’t just been a part of one streaming series before the latest one; he also lends his voice to the character Mike Wazowski in Disney+’s “Monsters at Work,” which debuted its second season early this year.
