Review of Absolute Batman #2

Title Comic Book Review: Action Comics #1075

As a devoted fan, I delve into the captivating narrative of Batman and Robin #15 penned by Phillip Kennedy Johnson. This issue unravels the enigma of a chilling new murderer haunting Gotham City, potentially linked to Batman’s past. The plot is intricate in certain areas yet remains compellingly well-crafted.

Black Lightning Issue 1 Although Black Lightning Issue 1 doesn’t delve deeply into the societal and cultural aspects, it effectively emphasizes the strong points of the character. By making the narrative and its enigma revolve around personal matters, particularly family, this issue crafts an engaging tale that not only resonates but also offers insights into what the post-Absolute Power world looks like. It’s a satisfying read, and I’m eager to see where the story progresses from here.

Title Review: DC vs. Vampires: World War V #4

In the seventeenth issue of Green Lantern, the Civil Corps continues to cause a stir within the cosmic realm of the DC Universe, and part 2 maintains the grandeur of part 1. The multitude of events unfolding across various fronts during this comic can sometimes be perplexing, yet writer Jeremy Adams manages to keep it coherent. Despite the confusion, the storyline weaves together seamlessly, with every character and concept developed over the past year playing a pivotal role. Simultaneously, artist Xermanico and colorist Romulo Fajardo Jr. are delivering exceptional work, creating villains that leap from the pages and collisions that feel truly vast in scale, even without planet-shattering fury. Green Lantern has become a must-read title, and it’s astounding to think we’re only two chapters deep into this captivating story. – Matthew Aguilar

Marvel

Comic Book Reviews for This Week: 11/13/2024

In the course of this comic book series, Steve Rogers’ characterization has been the sole aspect that seems somewhat successful. However, it’s far from consistent. Yet, when compared to the mishandling and misinterpretation of Peter Parker’s character, Steve’s portrayal in this run appears more satisfactory. The narrative deviates significantly from what one might expect, which is a recurring theme in this issue and throughout the series – Charlie Ridgely

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but express my enthusiasm for the underutilized character of Dracula in Marvel’s universe. However, in this Conquest 2099 #3, Orlando brilliantly demonstrates Dracula’s captivating potential within the constraints of this fascinating future setting. The action sequences are not only visually stunning but also enhance the overall experience, making it another thrilling addition to the 2099 series that Orlando has been dominating for quite some time now. And honestly, who wouldn’t appreciate more comics featuring massive space sharks?

In this issue of Deadpool #8, Ellie, Deadpool’s daughter, takes control at a time when it seems her father may have met his end. However, the story is burdened with an excess of interconnected elements that detract from its potential impact. Ellie is somewhat overshadowed by explanatory dialogue and numerous villains grabbing the limelight. It’s disappointing that Deadpool (the Merc With A Mouth) has been confirmed to return, as it lessens the impact of seeing Ellie alone. Nevertheless, there are moments of humor and intriguing action sequences, but the series could be more captivating than its current state.

Issue #1 of Psylocke delves into a strong, thematic narrative as Kwannon grapples with her transformation from weapon to regular life. In her spare time from the X-Men, she takes on various jobs to compensate, but when Cyclops suspends her due to overexertion (an ironic gesture from Scott), she accepts a mission concerning mutant trafficking that stirs up past trauma from her Hand training, pushing her back into old habits. The artwork is polished and dynamic, showcasing Psylocke’s ninja-like speed through afterimage effects, yet it resembles much of Marvel’s current output.

Title Review: Star Wars: Ewoks #2

In this issue #61 of The Amazing Spider-Man, Kelly and McGuinness skillfully continue the traditional style of the series. However, the first half showcases an attempt at something new – bestowing Spider-Man with magical abilities. While it’s good to see fresh ideas, it seems more like a gimmick than a substantive storyline for now. The artwork is pleasing and the dialogue is engaging. – Jamie Lovett

The Remarkable Tandem of Spider-Men #9

Launch of G.I. Joe #1 Marks an Exciting Expansion of the Energon Universe

Title Recap: Precious Metal #6

The Energon Universe’s captivating narrative unfolds in its fourteenth installment, seamlessly blending the past and present of this fresh Transformers universe. This issue maintains the impressive standard set by the series, skillfully merging Cybertronians with GI Joe and Cobra characters in a riveting amalgamation. The writing and artwork are commendable, though I had a minor quibble about the flashback. There seems to be a slight alteration in Starscream’s role in choosing to become a Decepticon which might irk some Transformers fans, but it’s a minor hiccup. The Energon Universe effectively portrays the Decepticons as a formidable adversary, and this issue underscores that even when injured, Starscream remains a formidable character. – Review by Evan Valentine

As a passionate fan, I’m thrilled to share my thoughts on Witchblade #5! This issue is bracketed with thought-provoking moments, particularly at the start where author Marguerite Bennett delves deeply into the overarching themes of the series. The climax is a pulse-pounding action sequence that ties everything together neatly.

Comic Book Reviews for This Week: 11/13/2024

In the latest installment of Jeff Lemire’s Black Hammer universe, titled “Black Hammer: Spiral City #1”, we find a fresh take on the narrative that deviates from previous volumes in an intriguing manner. After the conclusion of “The End” storyline, the world is left shattered and fragmented, necessitating a non-linear approach to tackle the aftermath. This creative choice presents diverse viewpoints that are enticing to delve into, yet it may leave some aspects of each tale incomplete or underdeveloped – at least for now.

As a devoted reader, I’ve always found myself yearning for a bit more depth from each installment of Epitaphs From The Abyss. The fifth issue is no exception to this sentiment. Although the three tales within are engaging and intriguing, they seem more like tantalizing glimpses into larger narratives than self-contained stories – particularly Matt Kindt’s “Forever Home,” which holds immense potential as a horror mystery that I can’t help but want to delve further into.

Despite some minor details getting lost in the fast-paced tournament, Skull-Crusher #7 effortlessly creates an engaging world and set of characters that make it difficult not to be fully immersed. You’re consistently having a fantastic time reading it.

As a fan, I find myself deeply resonating with the narrative of Minor Arcana #3. This issue seems to delve into the idea that sometimes we need to hit rock bottom to find our way back up, and it does so beautifully. Unlike the first two issues where Theresa was evading herself, her abilities, and her past, this one sees her reaching a pivotal moment – acceptance.

In a fresh new chapter for the Power Rangers, Power Rangers Prime #1 sets its stage with an exciting debut. The comic series skillfully merges the nostalgic essence of the past comics and franchise while crafting something distinctively novel. Author Melissa Flores effectively introduces the revised scenario, along with the history and folklore that underpin it, offering a captivating array of new societal dynamics and conflicts.

Star Trek: Lower Decks Comic Book Debut #1

Review of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Nation #2

In a new installment of “The Terminator” series, the story is set during the Vietnam War, where a Terminator is on a mission to eliminate a potential threat to Skynet, similar to the original films. However, this issue lacks detail and clarity, making it challenging for readers to become fully engaged. Additionally, the dialogue is convoluted, with the protagonist intentionally being vague about his true objective – finding his Vietnamese wife and child – even when alone. The visuals also fall short, with tanks seemingly materializing without explanation, and the artwork failing to capture the full impact of the destruction taking place. Despite not being entirely unreadable, it falls short on most fronts. – Jamie Lovett

In this installment of “Time Waits,” we find ourselves caught in the midst of a story where time-traveling chaos reigns supreme. This means that while there might be fewer heartwarming moments with our characters, we’re treated to an exhilarating dose of action as time-jumping mercenaries create havoc. Although it might seem like a sacrifice, it’s certainly worthwhile given the spectacular visuals on display in these pages.
