A developer who has been part of creating the multiplayer hero shooter game “Concord” recently disclosed that this project has been underway for a substantial period. The game’s lead character designer, Jon Weisnewski, shared this information on social media platform X (originally Twitter), stating that it has taken approximately 8 years to bring the game to life.
He mentioned that the game has been under development for approximately five years, with him being involved since almost the beginning, which implies the development process started around 2015. This period coincides with the surge in popularity of hero shooter games, particularly due to the release of the original Overwatch.
It’s important to mention that, while it might seem like Concord has been in production for eight years, a significant portion of this time was probably spent on pre-production. This is because the developer Firewalk didn’t establish itself in its current form until 2018. Therefore, the development timeline for Concord has indeed been extensive, which isn’t unusual given the intricate nature of game development.
Additionally, Weisnewski mentioned that the development team is geared up to provide ongoing content updates for the game in the years to come, expressing this as, “We’re buckled up and eager to keep pushing forward for years to come.”
The scheduled launch date for the game “Concord” is on the 23rd of August, but those who’ve already bought the digital deluxe version can start playing it right now. Additionally, details regarding the game’s first season after its release have been unveiled, with the season set to commence in October.
