Concord Open Beta Is Up Now

As a long-time gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I have seen the rise and fall of many gaming trends and genres. The FPS hero shooter scene has been particularly vibrant in recent years, with giants like Overwatch and Valorant dominating the market. Now, Concord Open Beta from Firewalk Studios joins the fray, but is it worth our time and attention?

Hold up, Arena fans, because the Concord Open Beta is live right now!

The latest FPS hero shooter from Firewalk Studios is out right now and ready to sign up players.

But how do we, or should we just wait for Deadlock from Valve?

Concord Open Beta

As a long-time gamer with a deep affection for first-person shooter (FPS) games, I’m thrilled to share my excitement about Concord, an upcoming hero shooter in this genre. Contrary to some common misconceptions, Concord isn’t the same game as Deadlock, published by Valve, or Overwatch 2, developed by Blizzard. Instead, it’s proudly brought to us by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Having followed Sony’s impressive track record in gaming, I have high expectations for this fresh addition to their roster.

While the official launch is scheduled for August 23rd, a beta version of Concord is already available to the public. You can access it now on Steam, Playstation, and Epic.

The response to the game has been underwhelming, with many people online either uninformed about it or put off by its appearance.

Players have a week-long opportunity, from the 18th to the 23rd, to test the beta version and decide if they prefer it over Deadlock in the longer term.

Straightforwardly, the heroes’ designs in this game don’t stand out as much as those in other popular hero shooters. Additionally, unfortunately, we’re launching at a point when interest in hero shooters is waning.

At present, there are five characters available for gameplay, but upon the complete release, there will be a total of 16. Given the current number of active beta players, which hovers around 1000 to 2000, it’s uncertain how long it will take to reach that point.

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve noticed that the all-time player count on Steam for my favorite indie game reached an impressive figure of 2388. This number signifies a healthy community for such a game. However, if we’re talking about a Triple AAA title, hitting a player count of 2388 would be akin to receiving a terminal diagnosis. It simply isn’t enough to sustain the massive development and marketing costs associated with these big-budget games.

As an Overwatch gamer, I’m thrilled that we’ve got a new hero to play with – Juno. We’re not just skipping over this update; instead, we’re diving in headfirst to explore her abilities and strategies.

But it’s also not free to play, which is going to hit it heavily.

Crash of the Concord

In simpler terms, the developers are facing a tough situation with their game in the Concord Open Beta on Steam. It may be necessary for them to transform it into a free-to-play version or consider discontinuing it altogether due to concerning performance indicators.

I’ve seen my fair share of illnesses in my time as a doctor, but this one has left me both puzzled and concerned. It’s been a mystery since its inception back in April 2023, according to what I’ve gathered from the developers. But here’s the thing – while everyone else seemed to be growing weary of hero shooter games, these developers decided to double down on the genre. To me, it feels like they’re swimming against the current, and I can only imagine the challenges they must face in bringing this game to life. It’s a bold move, one that requires not just creativity and innovation, but also a deep understanding of the market and the audience. I wish them all the best in their endeavor, and I’ll be following their progress with great interest.

I’m excited about Valve developing a hero shooter, yet it seems to be generating less buzz than expected among the gaming community. However, let’s keep in mind that even though Valve may not be making headlines with this project right now, their track record speaks for itself and there could be something innovative and groundbreaking in the works.

Hero shooter games’ players might benefit from a rest or something new. However, it’s essential to note that the gaming industry is undergoing a significant transformation too.

A growing number of gamers, including those who aren’t hardcore, have started encountering terms such as ESG and DEI in the gaming world. If you’re curious, I’d encourage you to explore further. Regardless of your stance, it’s essential to recognize that these design considerations are increasingly influencing consumer choices.

Based on my own experiences and observations as a seasoned video game developer, I strongly believe that focusing solely on player counts can be a narrow-minded approach, especially for developers working in the Western industry. Don’t get me wrong, having a large player base is important, but it should not overshadow other essential aspects of game development.

Its not looking good for the Concord Open Beta boss.
