Conjoined Twins Brittany & Abby Hensel & Husband Josh Seen in New Pic

As I delve into the lives of Abby and Brittany Hensel, twins who share one body yet maintain a unique identity, I find myself both fascinated and moved by their extraordinary journey. They have navigated the complexities of life with grace, resilience, and an unwavering sense of self that is truly inspiring.

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I’m always intrigued by unique stories, and the recent posts on social media featuring conjoined twins Abby and Brittany Hensel certainly fit that bill. Their husbands have graciously shared these rare glimpses into their lives, offering a fascinating insight into their remarkable journey.

In September of 2021, Josh Bowling updated his Facebook profile picture to a joyful selfie featuring himself, his wife (who is currently 34 years old), and their twins. Josh donned a gray jacket over a purple shirt, while the twins wore black tops in the photo.

On October 2nd, Josh too offered an uncommon peek into his life with the twins by uploading a video of handcrafted pumpkin-bread, describing it as “#HomemadePumpkinBreadByTheTwins” on social media.

The Hensel twins, who have a picture of themselves with Josh on their Facebook profile picture, gained popularity over a decade ago as teenagers. They became well-known when they shared their distinctive lives in the 2012 TLC docuseries “Abby & Brittany” before taking a break from the public eye.

In March, their marriage gained fresh interest on the internet following news reports. Later, they shared their feelings about returning to the limelight through various social media posts.

The two sisters are conjoined twins with a condition known as dicephalism, which means they were born joined at the upper body (specifically at the torso). They possess distinct spinal cords, brains, hearts, and other essential organs, but below their waist, their bodies are interconnected. Brittany operates the left side of their shared physical structure, while Abby manages the right side.

In the past few years, the twin siblings have been employed as elementary school teachers, having completed their graduation from Bethel University back in 2012.

The twins, together with their brothers Cody and Morgan, hail from Minnesota where they spent their childhood. Regarding weddings, Abby and Brittany served as bridesmaids at Brittany’s wedding held in September 2023.

The sisters are joined at the waist as conjoined twins with two heads (dicephalus). They each have individual spinal cords, brains, hearts, and other upper-body organs, while their lower bodies are shared. One sister, Brittany, manages her left half of the body, and the other, Abby, controls the right side.

In 2012, I was privileged to graduate from Bethel University alongside my twin sibling, and since then, we’ve devoted our careers to teaching at the elementary level.

Find out more about the lives of Abby and Brittany Hensel…

Abby and Brittany were born on March 7, 1990. Their mom, Patty Hensel, revealed in the 2007 documentary “Extraordinary People: The Twins Who Share a Body” that she was expecting a single baby according to scans prior to their birth. Initially, they were born with three arms; however, since one wasn’t functional, it was later removed.

Patty and her husband, Mike Hensel, learned that Abby and Brittany had an inseparable bond since infancy. Although Patty suggested that they might have been able to spend time apart as they grew older, their parents opted to keep them conjoined due to the fact that they could lead a complete, thriving life together.

Abby and Brittany made it clear that they are glad they aren’t separated, as it allows them to engage in activities like playing softball, meeting new individuals, and running together.

In a 2007 documentary, Abby and Brittany revealed that they frequently predict each other’s responses when crafting emails or messages online. They often present themselves as a single entity, using the term “we” in most cases. However, when they have differing opinions, they make it clear by saying “Abby states” or “Brittany states.

They also now share singular social media accounts, which are private and mostly inactive.

Abby and Brittany have frequently acknowledged the interest people have in their lives. However, they often feel annoyed by the response they receive from the public, particularly when strangers take their pictures without asking for consent.

Abby made clear back in 2007 that she strongly dislikes it when people snap photos of her. In such cases, she gets upset and makes the situation uncomfortable for the photographer.

Besides showing keen interest in their daughters’ health and development during childhood, Mike and Patty Hensel refused to subject their girls to any extra medical examinations. Both Brittany and Abby shared a strong dislike for visiting the doctor’s office during that period.

In my own words, I, Joy Westerdahl, their family’s doctor, clarified in 2007 that although they are unique individuals, the family prefers to view them as ordinary people. To respect their wishes, I must be cautious not to overstep boundaries and become excessively involved.

Following her wedding with nurse and veteran Josh Bowling, Abby welcomed another loved one into her life – his 8-year-old daughter Isabella. The happy couple exchanged vows on November 13, 2021. Although the news took many by surprise, it was a long-held dream for both Abby and Brittany to start a family together.

In the TV show “Joined for Life: Abby & Brittany Turn 16” in 2006, Brittany expressed that they will become mothers. She admitted they hadn’t figured out the details of motherhood just yet.

In their early thirties, Abby and Brittany have consistently kept their personal lives private since the airing of Abby & Brittany back in 2012. This one-season reality show offered a glimpse into the young women’s lives as they completed college and transitioned into adulthood.

Upon graduating from college, my colleague and I, Abby and Brittany, found ourselves starting our careers as educators. Right off the bat, we were employed without a traditional salary structure; instead, we each received individual contracts and our earnings were divided between us.

They currently teach fifth grade together at an elementary school in Minnesota.

On an episode of Abby & Brittany, Abby clarified, “I’m particularly good at math and science. On the other hand, Brittany shines in areas related to language arts, such as reading.
