As a seasoned gamer with a deep appreciation for both historical and horror games, I can’t help but feel a thrill of anticipation upon hearing that Catchweight Studio’s “Conscript” is now available. The moment I laid my eyes on the launch trailer, featuring the grimy trenches and terrifying atmosphere of the Battle of Verdun, I was transported back to my childhood, reminiscing about playing classic survival horror titles like Resident Evil.
As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I’ve seen my fair share of horror games that try to scare players with jump scares and creepy graphics. But Catchweight Studio’s new survival horror title, Conscript, takes things to a whole new level.
Team17 publishes the game “Conscript.” In this title, you follow the story of Andre, a French soldier, who is on a mission to find his brother amidst the chaos of World War 1’s battlefields in Verdun. The intense fighting has transformed France’s Western Front into a desolate and dangerous no man’s land. Players will navigate through grimy trenches and other locations. In addition to using firearms, you can utilize melee weapons for neutralizing threats.
The intrigue of Conscript is heightened by its unique pixel art design. This style effectively portrays the dismal mood of the battlefield while evoking memories of classic horror games. Similar to the challenges found in Resident Evil series, it offers various levels of difficulty and hidden rewards such as costumes and weapons.
The experience might not elicit typical frights, but it’s still a harrowing journey. Our review, which you can find here, awarded it a score of 8 out of 10.
