Control 2 Has a Lower Development Budget Than Alan Wake 2

At Remedy Entertainment, work on the highly anticipated sequel to their 2019 action-adventure hit, formerly known as “Control 2”, is now in its full development phase. This significant step was preceded by a revelation made in November of last year, when the studio disclosed that the production for this game was budgeted at €50 million. Now, Remedy has provided further details regarding this financial aspect.

It’s worth noting that the development of Control 2 is taking place on a smaller budget compared to Alan Wake 2. In an interview with Game File, Remedy CEO Tero Virtala disclosed that the budget for their upcoming 2023 survival horror title, Control 2, is actually less than what they’ve allocated for Control 2. According to Virtala, this budget allows them to produce outstanding games, and even at 2 million copies sold, the game should be able to recoup its costs.

As a game developer, nothing makes me more ecstatic than crafting an exceptional game. If by some stroke of luck, it manages to sell four to five million copies, well, let’s just say I’d be over the moon with joy!

In February, Remedy Entertainment disclosed that they had managed to sell more than 2 million copies of the game, Alan Wake 2, which covered both the production and promotion expenses.

As a gaming enthusiast, it’s been disheartening to witness the escalating production costs within the gaming industry over the past few years, leading to numerous studio closures and mass layoffs. So, it’s truly heartening to see Remedy Entertainment bucking this trend by deciding to develop their next big game with a more modest budget, rather than aiming for grander ambitions in every aspect. This shift in approach is indeed a breath of fresh air in the current industry landscape.
