Coronation Street and Emmerdale announce huge schedule change with early ITVX drops

As a seasoned cinephile with a soft spot for British soaps and a busy lifestyle, I must say that the recent changes at ITV have left me absolutely thrilled! The early-morning release of Coronation Street and Emmerdale on ITVX is a game-changer for me. As someone who often finds myself juggling work, family, and an insatiable appetite for soaps, this new feature allows me to catch up on my beloved shows at a time that suits me best.

Starting next Monday, the 14th of October, soap enthusiasts can start their day with the newest episodes of Coronation Street and Emmerdale on ITVX, available as early as 7:00 AM each morning.

The new episodes will air in the morning before they are broadcast on TV at night.

ITV plans to provide their viewers with the maximum flexibility for watching their shows, as stated by the network itself.

In other words, viewers who prefer Corrie and Emmerdale can watch the episodes before they air on ITV1 that night. You have the flexibility to watch it either during your morning meal or at a later time; the decision is all yours.

Previously, ITV aired their daytime soap operas earlier than usual, specifically during the Olympics and Euros events earlier this year, and also for the World Cup in 2022.

As a devoted movie buff, I’d say it goes like this: To keep me and fellow fans up-to-date while football took center stage during the World Cup, episodes of Coronation Street and Emmerdale were conveniently gathered into box sets and uploaded on ITVX every Monday morning. This way, we could catch up on our favorite soap operas without missing a beat!

Starting at 7am on ITVX, Olympics enthusiasts could savor the episodes – luckily, it’s not only a summer delight anymore.

Coronation Street and Emmerdale announce huge schedule change with early ITVX drops

Apart from sharing the thrilling news about upcoming episodes on ITVX, ITV has also unveiled plans to launch a dedicated soap operas section on ITVX. This announcement comes following a notable increase of approximately 30% in viewership for both Emmerdale and Coronation Street in 2024.

On ITVX, the latest addition won’t just host reruns of iconic Crossroads episodes; it will also feature beloved soap actors presenting classic soap operas or showcasing their preferred ITVX picks.

Additionally, it will serve as a platform to honor some popular soap opera actors and their latest endeavors within ITVX’s freshly introduced “Soap Stars Highlights” series.

For instance, while Suranne Jones is widely recognized for her character Karen McDonald in Corrie, it’s also worth noting that she has since taken on leading roles in ITV’s series Maryland.

Just like Katherine Kelly is famous for playing Becky McDonald, consider watching The Long Shadow instead, where she takes on the role of Emily Jackson.

In addition to the fresh rail on ITVX, you’ll find another section titled ‘Greatest Episodes’, featuring timeless Coronation Street and Emmerdale episodes, along with a highlight reel named ‘Top Picks’. This special selection will include Nolly, the Noele Gordon biopic starring Helena Bonham Carter.

Upon announcing the news, Craig Morris, head of ITV Channels and ITVX, stated: “The enthusiastic reception we received when we aired soaps at 7am during this year’s Euros and Olympics indicates that viewers prefer choosing their own viewing time for favorite soap operas. The new dedicated section on ITVX offers an ideal platform for the nation’s most popular and top-quality ongoing dramas.

You have the flexibility to decide when to indulge in your daily portion of excitement, be it on your way to work in the morning, at noon over lunch, or any other convenient time in the evening.

In a similar vein, Iain MacLeod, the executive producer in charge of continuous dramas at ITV, stated: “This is fantastic for soap opera enthusiasts! Watching your preferred series at a convenient time aligns wonderfully with today’s hectic schedules and adaptable lifestyles.

Or consider this delightful thought: “Who wouldn’t enjoy catching up on the newest Dingle drama in the Dales, or witnessing turmoil on the cobbles during your morning commute on the tram, or unwinding with a cuppa after taking the kids to school?

As a die-hard fan of soaps, I must say that the new soap page is simply delightful. It serves as a haven for enthusiasts of Coronation Street and Emmerdale, making it effortless to savor your beloved shows while exploring their rich pasts and more.

You can reach the brand-new Soap section on ITV by navigating deeper into ITVX using the guide, where you’ll find our new collection of soaps.
