Coronation Street confirms return of iconic character after 10 years for Eileen’s exit

For devotees of Coronation Street, the upcoming year may bring a mix of sorrow and joy, as Sue Cleaver bids farewell to the series after a remarkable 25-year run as Eileen Grimshaw. However, her departure plot is set to introduce once again a cherished character who has been dearly missed.

Confirmation has come in that Katy Cavanagh is set to reappear on the cobblestones as Julie Carp, Eileen’s sibling, following a nearly decade-long absence from the screen.

Cavanagh is currently shooting scenes, while Julie is set to come to Weatherfield on the 21st of February. This visit precedes Sue’s departure from Weatherfield, which is expected in the late spring.

I’m thrilled to once more don my unique wardrobe, Julie’s style, and it feels like a delightful homecoming as I tread the cobblestones again. (Cavanagh expressed her feelings about Julie’s return: It’s exhilarating to dust off my quirky wardrobe once more and it’s an absolute joy to step back onto the cobbles.)

“Julie is so much fun, I’ve missed her.”

ITV suggests that Eileen and Todd are joyful about Julie’s return, yet subtly implies a hidden motive for her coming back to Weatherfield. They also question the duration of her stay and wonder about the reactions of Julie’s ex-partner, Brian Packham, regarding her arrival.

Kate Brooks, the producer, shared a statement expressing their joy about Julie Carp’s return to the Cobbles. As the cherished character Julie returns to intertwine with the Grimshaws once more, it becomes apparent that all is not as it seems. This secret of Julie’s triggers a series of events with significant consequences for Eileen.

Katy seamlessly resumes her role as Julie, making it seem like she’s never left at all. We eagerly anticipate the audience experiencing Julie’s tale, filled with emotions ranging from love and laughter to tears.

During the years from 2008 to 2015, Cavanagh initially appeared on the show. Her character, Julie, ended up leaving the street after falling in love with Brian Packham, the newsagent, and they departed together. However, their relationship didn’t last, and Brian came back without her.

There’s a significant shift happening in Coronation Street as several key characters are departing. Recently, Helen Worth and Luca Toolan exited the show, while Cleaver is preparing to leave. Additionally, Craig Tinker actor Colson Smith, Debbie Webster actress Sue Devaney, and Daisy Midgeley performer Charlotte Jordan are also set to say goodbye.
