Coronation Street stalwart quits ITV soap after 11 years amid big changes

Actress Shelley King, who has played a role on Coronation Street for 11 years, is saying goodbye to the show.

Her departure occurs during a wave of cast members leaving, which includes Colson Smith, Charlotte Jordan, and Sue Cleaver.

Actress, playing the role of Yasmeen Metcalfe, concluded her last shooting sessions in December, with her departure expected to unfold around early spring.

Shelley has been a successful stage and screen actress, particularly recognized for her decade-long portrayal of one character. It’s clear why she wishes to explore new avenues in her profession now.

Initially, Yasmeen made her appearance on the cobblestones in 2014, accompanied by her husband Sharif Nazir (Marc Anwar), their son Kal (Jimi Mistry), as well as her grandchildren Alya (Sair Khan) and Zeedan (Qasim Akhtar).

However, the calm didn’t last for too long, as Yasmeen expelled Sharif due to his infidelity, and their son Kal tragically lost his life in the Victoria Court fire.

Ever since then, Yasmeen has been involved in several significant plotlines, one of which revolves around her marriage to the dominating husband, Geoff Metcalfe, portrayed by Ian Bartholomew.

Fed up with the ongoing abuse, Yasmeen ultimately took action by stabbing Geoff in the neck. She was indicted for attempted murder but later acquitted.
