Actor Paddy Bever has quit his role as Max Turner in Coronation Street.
In recent weeks, there has been a significant shift in the cast of the ITV soap, with key actors either deciding to leave or being removed from the show by its management.
It’s come to light that Bever, who assumed the role of Max starting from September 2021, is stepping down to pursue other acting ventures. However, he departs amicably with the management team at the soap opera.
After considerable thought and a tough choice, I’ve decided to depart from Max and Coronation Street to pursue fresh possibilities. Throughout this journey, I’ve been blessed with an abundance of kindness and support.

Bever expressed: “I’m deeply thankful for getting to tell Max’s tale, and it’s been an immense honor to be part of the enduring legacy of a cherished and iconic series. This experience has been unforgettable, and as I look towards future endeavors, I will cherish these memories.
Max’s departure transpired during a tumultuous time for him and his partner, Lauren, and it followed the departure of his grandmother, Gail Rodwell (played by Helen Worth), on December 25th, 2025.
As a devoted cinephile, hearing about Charlotte Jordan leaving her beloved character Daisy Midgeley and Shelley King stepping down from Yasmeen Khan has left me feeling quite disheartened. It’s like the curtain is closing on an era I held dear.
In the coming days, actress Sue Cleaver will be stepping down from her long-standing role as Eileen Grimshaw, a character she has portrayed for 25 years. Actress Katy Cavanagh, who plays Eileen’s half-sister Julie Carp, is set to return for the storyline that marks Sue’s departure from the show.
In another development, actress Lucy Fallon will be taking a brief break from her character Bethany Platt due to maternity leave following the birth of her second child. Meanwhile, Maureen Lipman is reducing her commitments as a regular cast member, no longer playing the sharp-tongued Evelyn Plummer in full capacity.
Ultimately, the roles of PC Craig Tinker (played by Colson Smith) and Debbie Webster (portrayed by Sue Devaney) are no longer part of the soap opera. Their characters will be phased out in the current year and in 2026, respectively.
After the tragic killing of teen Mason Radcliffe, who had his share of troubles, in a chilling plot involving knives, this event unfolded. (This month saw the murder of Luca Toolan portraying Mason Radcliffe in a grim narrative about weapons.)
Indeed, it’s important to note that by 2025, there will be some fresh faces joining the street. This continuous flow of newcomers underscores the fact that soap operas are always in a state of flux, with new characters entering, existing ones returning, and others departing.
